Default need suspension help ASAP

first let me start off with the stupid question, i just want to make sure: are 98 coupe springs the same as 2000 hatchback springs? my friend has some tenzo springs on his 98 coupe that he is looking to get rid of, and until i have enough money to get some teins i want to put the tenzos on my car. will that work?

next question: i have spring compressors and every hand tool ever made, does anybody have instructions on how to swap springs? a link or a post would be appreciated. thanks.

edit- can i use the spring install instructions from an integra? i know integras are based off EGs but it would still be very similar right?

spring installation is amazingly easy. i was surprised at how easy was truthfully. all i did was put the car on jack stands and start unbolthing everything that was in the way. just be careful not to strip the top of the strut with the allen key. happens alot if your not careful!

if you have any other questions pm me......good luck

i dont know how the susp setups on an ek differ from eg but ive done a few egs...

start off by just loosening(not removing) the 3 bolts that go through the lca in the front. then remove the bolt going htrough the shock fork that keep the shock in its "stand". then just disconnect the knuckle from the upper control arm and the whole knuckle/brake assmbly should drop down (make sure you remove the bolt holding the brake lines to the shock too). then just go under the hood and disconnect the two 14mm bolts holding the shock tower to the chasis, you should be able to take the entire spring/shock assembly out at this point.

when you can actually hold the assembly in your hand, use the spring compressors, one on each side of the spring (this relieves the tension) and remove the hat/mount with an alen wrench and 12mm(i think,,, but it may be 14mm) wrench. then put the new spring on the perch(you dont need to use the spring compresser to get the hat back on).

then just reasemble the suspension, and make sure you dont torque the bolts until both sides are done and you can pull the car up on ramps to set the suspension, if you torque the bolts while the car is on jack stands you will bind the bushings.

for the rears its even less complicated, loosen the lca bolts and remove the lca bolts going into the trailing arm and going through the shock. then go in the trunk and remove the 2 bolts holding the shock hats.

also, before you even get started use liquid wrench on the bolts, use a hammer to create vibration to the bolts and let them sit for a few hours... its a pain in the *** if you break a seized bolt. good luck

yea springs from 96-00 civic are the same. even the 92-00 should be the same. spring install is quite easy, it just takes time to use the spring compressor. unless you want to shoot it. also, make sure that u mark the position of the top hat in relation to the shock body, so that it bolts back on easily. and don't tighten the top nuts all the way until the car is sitting on the ground.

you need a manual, the haynes manual has them but i dont hve it w/ me, pep boys has them for pretty cheap i think... just use some of the $200+ youre gonna save by doing the install yourself

i don't think i need a torque wrench for this job, team-integra.net doesn't list torque specs or include a torque wrench as a needed tool in their guide.

another question- do i need to cut the bump stop? tenzo springs are like a 2 - 2.5 drop

i'd say dont cut the bump stops, youre gonna blow out your stock shocks w/ a drop no matter what, but the bump stops will probibly lenghten their lifespan.

how long until the shocks give out? my friend's coupe has a good 50K with the tenzo springs + stock shocks, and it seems fine to me

i had neuspeed sports which only drop like 1.75" and the stock(1994) shocks were gone in under a year.

With that much ride height reduction...just wait and save up for some new struts. The oems won't last long....they won't be able to effectively dampen those tenzo springs with increased rates. I understand that it is a temporary job but, why do it all a 2nd time if you can help it?

Yes you can use the Teg spring install directions it will be very similar to what you will see on your Civic. Good luck

get a manual and dont let the spring hit you in the face when it comes off.

not to sound like the safety dork... but i would not let the spring shoot, it only takes 5 min to secure them w/ a compressor. your hands need to be right near it to be unscrewing the hats... if it hits you it will **** you up.

exactly, I would much rather be the safety dork with two functioning eyeballs.
