Default extrude honed stock intake manifold

i had this done for my stock B16A2 intake manifold to try something new. It came out better than I expected and the gains are yet to be seen as my clutch started slipping that night. Anyhow, check http://www.extrudehone.com if you're interested. It cost me $390 if i remember correctly.
The first 2 are of the plenum and the last is of a runner.

I've just started looking into doing this to a spare y8 IM that I have lying around. Has anyone else done this? Know if any reputable shops that can do it for a lot cheaper than $390?

if i get a y8 im for my mini-me swap, i was planning on getting a dremal- high powered one, with sanding bits, and basicly just polishing conors, all the inside pipe for a nice finish - thats basicly all a polish is right ?

If you get it extrude honed then you will also be able to polish the runners as well. I don't know how else you could get inside of those things. Also, if you look inside of a stock IM, it looks nothing like this guys IM. It is rough/textured and you can see the casting marks on the runners.

extrude hone isnt just polishing, they basically take a thick *** mud looking goop crap that has abrasives kinda like sand, and shove it through there, as it passes through it hones/polishes, they can remove a specific amount of material that u request etc, and that stuff can reach places that a normal grinder/polisher cant reach

but 400 bux? dam man, u should done it to an itr manifold atleast

Checked out their price list... Steep, but still interesting.

They also do headers and heads.

If you opt for all three you can get a 15% discount.

But, that is a lot of money and I don't know how well the heads would react to such treatment.

When Kubo was running they had an extrudehoned ITR manifold.

That is a LOT of money to get all done. Also with what I've been reading about porting, it makes me wonder if you would really want to extrude hone a head. Unless of course you plan to go behind it and do some additional work yourself.

Anyways, I'm really interested in this extrude hone concept and might get it done anyways when I have the funds to spare. $400 isn't that bad when you consider how much a CAI, header or exhaust costs for our little imports.

I'm on stock internals right now, so this wouldn't do a lot for me, but I'm still struggling with the NA vs. mild turbo setup and this could really be useful down the road.

I would only suggest this process for extreme turbo/naturally aspirated applications

That answers my next question. I was wondering at what point would you really see the benefit of something like this. But sure is pretty

What if you were to have a Skunk2 IM done by extrudhone? Would there be further gains over the Skunk2?

extrude hone is AWESOME... a kid I used to know had his dirt bike and snowmobile's heads extrude honed... he said it was REDICULOUS... he'd beat all kinds of bikes/mobiles that were higher cc.

I was gunna do it till I found out pricing... it is kind of rediculous but if you think about it it hones out a smooth path and shaves down obstructions in the same path of the intake air... IE the mud is just REALLY THICK air... so it bores down and smooths out every nook so it probobly not only out flows LOTS of expensive aftermarket intakes but has a less turbulent path then say a box over plenums design.

Exactly what I was going to say. The hp to dollar ratio is not worth it IMO.

Ridiculous even. Anyhow, any modifications to a motorcycle/snowmobile will be very noticeable. When you're only putting out 90 hp, 5 more hp is a lot, especially considering the weight difference of a dirt bike/snow mobile to a car (Just an example, don't worry about the numbers).

that's fair. I don't know much about bikes but he was a big fan of extrude hone.

Yeah, IIRC, most bikes are 2-stroke and turn a lot more rpms than our little 4-bangers, so the improvements there will definately be noticeable.

Not arguing wither or not it is worth it, but the hp to dollar ratio isn't any worse than most other import parts.... $400+ headers that only add 2-3hp? $500 exhausts that do the same...

400 for a header for 2-3. maybe you might want to get a different header company. or spend a little more and get the an-r?
