Default why such huge gains on K20 with just CAI?

I was reading an article comparing all the CAI's for the new K20C i believe which is the TypeS motor or maybe it was the K20A i dont know them well yet but anyway even the cheapest one which was some odd ball brand made over 15whp!!! off just a stinking CAI, ive know B18's that didnt make 15whp on i/h/e

the factory stuff must be crazy restrictive to make 15whp with just a CAI, and the AEM made 21whp twenty freaking one whp and the exhausts they were using were avg'ing like 10+whp...i cant even imagine how much good cams must unlock these motors

is there anything really great about these powerplants or are they just REALLY restricted from the factory?

I know my old 5SFE in my MR2 could net close to 70whp with a P&P head, cams and a header and cat back exh but that motor was incredibly restrictive out of the box...are the new K blocks equally as restricted?

The stock intakes are but the stock exhaust is pretty good.

part of it is because of that i-vtec crap (not in a bad way).

my buddy has i/e and is making 190whp already...the car pulls extremely hard and that needle just sprints to 8k rpm after it hits vtec...crazy!

the k20a2 motor has a hellacios valvetrain!! it is able to breath a lot better than the 0ld vtec motors because of the way the ivtec works. Plus the old theory, more air = more horsepower!!

I installed the AEM CAI on my si and it made a huge difference. The reason it does this is because the computer of the engine adapts to what it has. Basically if it gets more air from the intake, its going to use it. You have to understand that the displacement of the engine also has something to do with it. More room to work with for the most part means more potential...catch my drift?

so basically, all it is is the ECU and the i-vtec and the valvetrain

cai != short ram... please do actually read the entire post before replying.

also, i assure you that if you had a few more breathing mods, possibly a set of cams made for top end (if not out now, they will be), a shorty with some heat shielding will ALWAYS outperform a cai for real racing. you want the shortest, most direct path to the throttle body for high rpm n/a applications. on a bone stock motor a sri (short ram intake) will not make a lot of noticeable power unless the stock air box is VERY undersized. your best solution with shorties is to find one that puts the filter in a good place so you can heat shield it from the engine.

over 190hp at the wheel from i/e? nothing else? i'm going to call bullshit too. post up a dyno run and ALL the engine mods.

a short ram intake will not outperform a cai ESPECIALLY when there are higher engine bay temps, the short ram will give you a little bit better response, but thats about it!

You seem to be more inclined towards addressing topics such as what's gay and circle jerking rather than the discussion at hand.

here we go again... some people refuse to accept the fact that Honda has actually taken a step forward with their new motors. "the new i-vtecs respond better to mods than my b series? blasphemy!!"

JoeB16 - aem cai and a good 2.5 exhaust on type-s mean around 185hp at wheels. what part of this don't you understand?

A) While 180WHP is more believable then the previously stated 190WHP, I still like to see the dyno to prove it.
B) its still just an INTAKE, what dont YOU understand about that statement?

A) For someone you can talk to about this contact Shawn Church. He has tested plenty of RSX's. As I live in Australia, I can't tell you about first hand experience with RSX-S, only our DC5R which has the same engine.

B) What I don't understand is your immediate BS call for something that there has already been discussion about in this forum. If what was posted was unknown then fair call. It may still just be an intake but the RSX has lots of intake choices, some do 3hp, some do 13hp. Wouldn't RSX owners like to know which ones and why?
