white sludge under oil cap?????? wtf????
hey all, well today was my first day off in over 2 weeks, and first semi nice day in the NE, so i went out to check my coolant and oil in my b16, well when i removed my oil cap to add 1/4 of a quart i noticed a whitish brown sludge underneith it (the cap), now i could have swarn i cleaned the cap when i put the motor in 5 months ago, so i can't understand it, i normally change my oil every 2500 miles, just switched over to moble 1 synth blend, eventually i'll go fully syn w/ my turbo, also when i installed the motor, i cleaned out the pan, replaced the oil and water pumps, ect...... got the magnetic plug and use honda oem filters from the dealer, no metal shaveings last change soo..... i'm perplexed... could it have been the engine cleaner i added to the oil my first 2 oil changes???? it was made by rysoline and i only used 1/2 the quart each change...... well hope this explaines a lot.

When I worked at pennzoil, it was normal that in the winter cars would come in with that nasty stuff on the underside of the cap, my boss always said it was a moisture build up (nothing to do with a dirty motor) it was only in the winter. If anyone thinks im wrong, do explain.
I agree, this sludge on your oil cap is caused by moisture build up in the oil. This condition can be aggrivated by short trip driving. The oil will not get hot enough on short trips to burn off the water.
lol, smart-***. thanks a lot guys i was hopeing it wasn't anything. i've been haveing probs w/ my radiator too and i was praying it wasn't that causeing the prob, no over hearting, just can't seem to get all the air out of it.
I don't want to scare you, but if your low on coolant and you have brown sludge on the cap you may have a blown head gasket. Does it look like thick coffee? Although if that was the case you should be able to tell by looking at the dipstick for the coolant mixing with the oil. Hopefully its what everyone else thinks! I always think the worst.
nah no coolant in oil. if there is there won't be this spring when i strap the turbo on, i'll be replaceing the head gasket, and putting gsr cams in too (they've been sitting in my basement for too long).
