So I'm picking up a duckbill style spoiler off my friend and I want to paint it myself to save cash. I'm going to go to the paint shop and pick up some paint, primer and clear coat. I've done this before once or twice and what some experence in painting things with spray cans but I'm looking for any help that you guys could offer.
Thanks!
Thanks!
you cant really give good painting advice by typing it out..just remember to take your time and evenly coat it and if you mess it up youcan always reprep it and start over
yeah just use the thinnest, wet, most even coats possible, and TAKE YOUR TIME. OOOORRRRRRR, take it and have it professionally sprayed for like 50 bucks, since the spray paint wont match. but good luck if you do it urself. just take ur time.
it's called "can control"...
Go to your local PPG supplier and have the actual paint mixed and put in an aeresol can for you. It has a fan type spray nozzle for the most even finish. You pay for the cost of a pint of paint, usually about 20-30 bucks, then 5 bucks a can. So you're actually looking at probably 40-50 bucks...

I've done some painting on my car before (door handles, mirrors, stock wing, side molding and side skirts all paint matched) and it cam to like $30 for one can of paint and clear.....I'm guessing I can get 2 cans of paint, can of primer and a can of clear coat for about $50, need to touch up some stuff.
yea,..just like everyone said,..take your time,..dont be impatient and shiet like that,..sand as much as you can,..prime up,..and paint,..let all coats dry,..like i said dont be impatient,...fan nozzle spray cans are good

They can put automotive paints into aerosol cans for $12.95 a can. I just ordered 3 cans and it came out to around $50 including shipping and handling. Pretty good IMO for perfectly matched paint.

Prices must have went up, cuz it's $14.95/can for the enamel and $19.95 for laquer now. Plus $7.95 shipping.
Which one did you go with? And what should I use for like rear spoilers, and front lips? I'd hate to spend all this $$ and have the front lip get all chipped up in a week or two.

Spray side to side from about a foot away...SO the paint can is not on the same section for more than an instant...
Spray on one very light coat....let it dry...
Spary on more and let dry between each coat
Take your time and be patient.....
good luck

If you're gonna spray bomb the lip yourself, scuff the old paint up with a scotchbrite pad or some 500 grit paper, knock down the clear until the paint looks dull and hazy. This will help with the adhesion of the new materials that you'll be laying down. As for the chips, thats all about the clear coat that you use. If I were you, i'd pony up the $125 approx that a shop will charge to paint it (using 94 Integra lower spoiler paint times, 1.2 to paint, .6 to clear, $32/hr labor, $18/hr materials and some time to prep and fix existing chips, assuming that it doesn't need to be completely stripped). The shop will be able to chip the existing paint and get a closer variant than anything that you'll see out of a can, they will degrease and chemical wash the lip, and the clear will be of a better quality and will also be baked, which helps the durability of the paint.
