my friends and i were checking out a 97 ek dx with stock engine/tranny. when we revved it (probably at 3k to 4k, not sure because there was no tach) there was the normal engine noise and then a high pitch noise(.....rrrrrr...aaaaaarrrrrrr....rrrrrr......r rrrr....)and then it drops back down to the normal engine noise. at first we were like wtf, and tried it again, and this time the noise came a little earlier (about 2k). we're thinking there might be some internal engine problems, but we're not sure, does anyone have any ideas?

note: all this was done while parked and in neutral. also there was no check engine light nor was there any other signs telling us that the car was bad. the carfax camed out clean as well. also when we droved it, the car was slow as fawk, i know its only a d15 but it was like we were in a 60 hp car...

It don't matter you should swap out the engine for a D16y8 or B series anyways. Just make a better deal with the owner because of the noise.

 

we are planning on doing a swap but probably not until summer so if we were going to buy it, we would be stuck driving it until then, that's why we're just wandering what's going on with the engine. we actually got the price down to 4000 so its not too shabby...
anyone else got any ideas on whats happening?

Is it a knocking sound, or a tick? Did it do it with the clutch in/out?

 

I think i know what youre talking about. Is the sound kinda like when you put water in your mouth, and then you suck in air so it makes like a lumpy whistling sound? My motor makes that kind of a sound when the motor revs. I can hear it when i rev in my driveway or when i pass by cars. I wonder what its from though....

 

I'm sorry. Don't mean to be an ***....but were you making engine noises on a post?

 

its kind of like that....
the engine would rev (remember this is while the car is in nuetral and not being driven) around 3k and then a higher pitch clanking noise would come from the engine and then it'll stop at 4k back to the regular engine noise...
anyone have any other input to might be the problem. thanks for all those whose posted

 

I was about to ask the same thing. If you can try depressing the clutch in and see if the noise goes away, and releasing the clutch to see if it comes back. If it does, it could be the throw-out bearing, bearings in the tranny, or both.....
