b16a 00si vs b18c1 gsr?
Okay, i have the chance to up grade to the b18c1 by trading my b16a plus 500$ but would it be really worth it? how many hp does a stock b18c1 put down on the dyno? My b16 is from a si and has 18k on the motor the b18c1 is clean never raced and is a 98year motor with 50k on the motor? I want to stay all motor and am saving for the b18c5 but was wondering if this would be a good swap? thanks

I've had both motors in 1992 Si hatches.
B18C1 did 150whp and 122ft/lbs. of torque with i/h/e
B16A2 did 143 and 102ft/lbs. of torque with i/h/e and re-chipped P28
The B18C1 beat the B16A in every rpm range. From a dead stop, from a roll, in any gear, in any circumstance, the B18C1 would pull on the B16A2 with identical cars and mods down to the same wheels and tires.
If you could keep the B16A tranny that **** would be great.

thanks everyone Im trying to work out a deal with the guy. I was kind of second guessing because I havent seen the motor run so who knows if it smokes etc... But my b16 is a good but stock motor no leaks, smoke,or anything. How much would you say the b16a is worth? Id be trading motor/trans/p30/dc4-1?
dont worry bud, no one iz a noob...not now anyway..
hey tom, why keep the b16a2 when the b18 can smoke it? you said it yourself so why keep it?

Why would it be great to keep the B16A Tranny, it's better then the Geezer tranny? sorry for being a noob but just asking..
oh and my response to this thread is YES DO IT!
lets say you stick with your B16A and spend 500 bucks, what mod will make a B16A gain 10-12 hp @ the wheels?
you go get the B18C1 by spending the 500 bucks then youre set!
you could switch B16 4th and 5th gears and the GSR's 4th and 5th gears so youre still OK on the freeway, just a suggestion
I just dont like the fact that Im at 4k RPM while cruizin on freeways on my way to VEGAS

If it were solely based on wanting more power, then obviously you want the GSR. However, you are getting an engine here with much higher mileage than the B16 you already have (which is also already a nice engine to work with). Do you really know what kind of shape it is in? Make sure you are getting a good engine in this trade, not just a bigger one that is going to burn oil, need a new this, need a new that. What Im saying is, be careful, but if all is well, this sounds like a kick *** deal. Think your buddy would trade a b16 for a d15z1 and 500 bucks!?

Gearing is better on the B16A tranny.
I like the GSR tranny better myself, mostly because when I shift into second it doesnt spin as much. B18 is a far better choice, unless you just add nitrous to your B16, then you have 70hp@the wheels for 500 bux. Just a thought.
eh, i would say dont do it.
Me personally, I would only drop in a brand new engine, or one where every aspect is made anew. Think of how well you treat your engine, how often you do oil changes, hopefully dont beat on it too hard.......vs however this guy treats his, if he's a friend than and you know how it was treated, it may be good, but, me personally i wouldnt do it with just someone's b18c1.

I would only buy an engine if it is my year or newer and has fewer miles than that of my car. In this case, the B18 is older and has more miles. Though you are swapping in an engine w/ slightly more power, it's probably in worse condition than yours. I would keep searching for an 00 or 01 Integra motor w/ fewer than 20k miles. I know many people here disagree, but this is just my opinion. Good luck!

Oh yeah I also have another hybrid hatch - actually my fiancee' drives it.
It's the black 1992 Si hatch with the 1999 B16A2 in it:

Yes she does have the B16A2-powered 1992 Si hatch, and that's precisely why I believe that i can honestly tell you all from personal experience, not hearsay, that a B18C1 will beat the **** out of an equally-prepped B16A2 swap in the exact same car.
I had a B18C1 and a B18C5 in my old 1992 Si and the difference between the B18C1 and the B16A2 was pretty damn big, and of course the B18C5 ruins the **** out of the B16A2.
Again I'd take the B18C1 even though it has 30K more miles on it.
You guys act like 50K is a lot of miles for a Honda engine!
