Steering wheel shakes above 60!!!
As you can see from my signature, I just got my car recently. I was fooling around in the snow last night being stupid and I hit a snow bank goin maybe 10 at most. I almost got stuck, but I was able to get out of it. When I got back to my house luckily I found no cosmetic damage, the bumper didnt move or anything. But today going to work, once I got onto the highway and hit like 50 or 60, my steering wheel started shaking like crazy. I was thinking maybe I screwed up my wheel alignment or somethin? I don't think its a CV joint or busted axle cause when I make turns there is no clicking sound or anything. Any advice is appreciated!
You probably got some snow and ice in your wheels, throwing them off balance. This happened on my old '94 Ford Ranger I used to have. It had some custom wheels that trapped snow and ice really easily, and when you got up to about 50 mph the whole truck just shook around like crazy, lol. I just waited for a warm day and blasted them out at the carwash, and it was nice and smooth until I drove the backroads again (which was almost every day), lol
i doubt that the wheel weights will get knocked off that easily by hitting something at 10 mph....those things are tightly clamped onto the rims. But thas just my $0.02
i went off roading in my car at my mom's for christmas. We live way in the country and the roads are plowed and we got a little over a foot of snow so it was an offroad adventure to get to her house. After that i had snow in my rims so it shook bad on the highway. I took it to the car wash and stuck the hot pressure sprayer in the rim holes and got it all out then it's fine.
it's either that or you knocked the car out of alignment. try cleaning out the rims before you do anything else. you'd probably feel stupid going to the alignment shop and they just removed a big chunk of ice and charged you 50$.

I can bet my life that it was just the alignment.. While driving.. let go of your steering wheel.. And see what happens.. If you start turning hard.. ALIGNMENT CHECK..
I cant count how many times **** like that has happened to me while turning.. And its the wirst thing for a FWD car like ours.. Definetly Get it checked.. Run to your mechanic or do it yourself.. RUN FOOL RUN!!!!!!!!

i have the same problem with my ek coupe. most likely ur wheels need balancing. but i have a question also. what happens if u neglect it for a month or two? i'm not running on rims right now and am considering a balance once i get the money to afford some gramlights or rotas.
Your steering wheel shaking has nothing to do with your alignment...
As was previously stated, check for debris on the inside of your wheel. A few ounces of mud will throw your wheels out of balance (a shaking steering wheel is usually the front wheels). If you don't have any debris, have the wheels balanced. You need to tell the tech at the shop what happened and ask him to check the rims to verify they are not bent. If the rim is bent, he should be able to see the runout as the wheel spins on the balancer.
You may not want to hear this but it sounds like one of your front rims is bent from the impact.

Assuming you're not driving around with 25º of + camber and 25º of total toe (your car is wrecked...get to a body shop), the alignment will NOT cause a vibration at 60 mph.
If your alignment angles are out of specification by 1 or 2º (a Honda usually isn’t out this much unless it has been wrecked or lowered), it could cause a pull while driving, pull while braking, off center steering wheel, uneven tire wear, etc...
If you're still not convinced, please explain exactly which alignment angle will cause a vibration at 60 mph and if you're close to the Dayton OH area, we can set the angles with my old Hunter 211 alignment machine I have set up in my friend’s garage or we can use the new 611 we use at work.
It could be as simple as you needed a new tire. I have 2000 EXV6 and my car did the same thing last year. It would shake like crazy after 60-70 mph. I did wheel balance, tire rotation, wheel alignment and nothing. I was pissed nonetheless so I took it to the dealer going crazy about how my car is junk and all that. Then one of the mechanics said to replace my front tires. He said that it could be a broken thread or whatever. VOILA! Immediately after replacement of the 2 front tires, problem totally disappeared!
Sorry for not replying, but it was simple as washing out my wheels...apparently I had a big chunk of ice in one of them, and now its fine!
