Does Anyone know anything about Flwheels?? please teach..
Hey, i was wondering if aluminum flywheels are worth installing, how strong of a gain can you expect on a b16a please tell me everthing you know~!!...? thanks
it will be a very worth while investment into a lightened flywheel...the b16 will be much happier with the freed up cyntrifical reduction of weight!!!
Hold on a second, giving a simple 1 word answer doesn't help. There are two trains of thought on a light weight flywheel. Some people say that a lightweight flywheel frees up HP by reducing the rotating mass on the engine. The thought behind this is great, but is it necessarily true? In certian types of racing, having a free revving engine is good (drag included- off the line) but, what about when trying to keep revs up? Is it that important? Some people say no. I know more than a few draggers that have installed a lightweight flywheel with absolutely no benefit. Auto X is a completely different scenario when revving becomes more important as you are constantly up and down in the RPM range. Best to do a little research on kinetic engery before spouting off that lightweight flywheels are good or bad. Ask around, and ask how much time ppl have shaved with JUST a lightweight flywheel. It's not fair either to say that you shaved a second, with a flywheel, and built motor. It has to be the flywheel only.

allow me to give my two cents
Lighten flywheels are good. Yes it does reduce the rotating mass. It is good practice to have a light flywheel even for drag racing. BUT if its too light you'll experience loss of torque and the initial inertia (you'll probally suffer on ur 60ft time). You must find a good compromise point. Too heavy is obviously bad and too light is as well. Stock Honda flywheel are on the heavier side, it can use some lightening.. as far as how much.. who knows.. again you have to find a good compromise. I beleive Jun does offer different stages for certain applications. you might want to check it out..
