Red/Amber Clock information
Ok guys, I tried this out today, and I'm VERY pleased with the results. I recently did the red guage cluster DIY mod, and this matches perfectly.
Anyways....it seems that many people are having trouble finding the transparent film. After hunting around a few stores today, I finally found some stuff that works.
The stuff I got comes in 8.5 x11.5 in. sheets. Its kinda expensive, mine cost 4 bucks....but results are definately worth it. I found mine at JoAnne Fabrics. I'm sure Hobby Lobby, or any other craft type store would probably have it also. Check in the art/craft section of the store.
I followed the instructions at http://www.geocities.com/mt3c/ .
A few things I'd like to add....experiment with the number of layers you put on the LCD. I tried just one layer, and it turned out kinda pink. I now have 3 layers, and it looks nice and red. So experiment with the layers to get the color and brightness you want. Also, there is no coating on the LCD to remove....I think I remember someone asking about that. Just put the red layers right on top. Oh, and one more thing, be careful w/ the buttons that you use to adjust the hours and minutes....I accidentally turned the piece upside down and they all fell out. Its not too hard to get back in, but just don't lose em.
That just about sums it up.....if you have any questions, post here or send me an im.
Good luck

Wouldn't professional lighting gels work too? I whored amber gels for many of my interior lights. got a whole pack of different colors, like yellow, teal, magenta, etc.

monokote is what i have on my RC plane. Its a thin film that is usually applied to balsa would as a "canvas" that covers the balsa frame to give it a closed structure.
I would try something like krylon stained glass paint.

and those bulbs cost like 5 dollars right?
Im sure they can be found a lot cheaper, and krylon paint is maybe 3 or 4 bucks a can.
I used just one layer of red transparent film on my clock and it matches 100% my JDM ITR cluster! Now i just have to attempt the damn heater/air con unit, which i dont think will be half as easy!

gtravsr, I had the same problem.......but I'd rather have the clock a little darker than glowing pink
. Kinda have to make a tradoff. I DEFINATELY like the way it looks after dark....but its kinda hard to see in the sunlight.

i have atte, pted to take out my heater/AC control several times but get pissed off and just put it back in again, i cant find where the slider control wire unhooks at the back, and i was told it was a bitch to replace and get it to work the same as before it was taken out.
Thanks for the link to the bulbs, i was going to just use red/amber film to change the colour

yeah, the red film worked great for me.....just pop out the buttons and slap some red film in there. I didn't even remove the blue stuff, just pasted over it. mine turned out nice. The only tough one is the slider bar thing, and even it wasn't that bad.
The main reason I posted the link to the bulbs is for people who have blown out bulbs behind the console (like me
). As far as I know, you have to buy the bulbs from acura....I've heard they are like 7 bucks a piece at dealership

turned out red
It suprised me that the blue stuff didn't show through or tint the color, but you can't even tell its there. Just a nice deep red.
Of course, this might depend on the type of transparent film you get. Just make sure you test out whatever you try on just one button first before doing the whole thing
