Default how to kill an engine????

the other night i was really stupid, i had my auto in first and i raced it up and before i knew it i was at 7,000 rpms, the accord ex redlines at 6,250 rpms, i actually found the rev limiter, has anyone else ever done this before, even if it was by accident? will doing it this once hurt my engine in the long run?

I have done it a few times but fuel cutoff should protect your engine from serious damage.

if I shift gears manually on the auto I will let it wind up far enough to get it in the power range for the next gear.

When i had an F22 I hit the rev limiter probably 4 or 5 dozen times, its there for a reason. If you pull the valve cover on my f22 its pristene (sp)

The real fuel cut on an f22b1 is 6350-6400, on my stock tach that would display about 6800

I have been all over my rev limiter/fuel cutoff, countless times at autocross events. Some of those straights just don't justify the shift to third for a couple feet before the down shift back to second. I really don't think you can kill the F series engines without being really stoopid or some kind of FI. I mean I have been trying for the past couple years with no luck.

You know, it may not be ideal, but at the same time it won't kill your engine. Your limiter has been set at 7k because it would not be safe to rev higher. revving lower would be safe. Anyways, I rev my F22B1 to the cutoff almost daily, and I've lasted the engine for 250,000 miles, and killed it because if bad oiling. Not related to overrevving. You shouldn't have any problems. But if you feel bad each time you rev it to the cutoff, don't do it and feel good...

Oops yeah, sorry 'bout that, I thought he had an F22A1. They rev up to 7000rpms, or so I saw on a few different tachs. Maybe the real rpm is different as you say, but they do rev higher than my F22b1.

LOL it's quite hard to shift an auto while racing. You need good anticipation. For drag racing you need even better anticipation to get a good launch if you want to rev it up in neutral and dump it to drive, because there is a delay about 3-4 tenths of a second before it actually goes into gear. Needless to say it's a little rough on the tranny, but it should survive. It has survived many drag races on my car.

most of the f-series motors have a redline at 6250 rpm.

I used to press the brake pedal and accelerate at the same time, bring it to about 2K ( this was conservative) and then press the gas to the bottom and release the brake, it would work pretty well
