Just wondering if there are any differences in the rods, pistons or anything else on a JDM H23 and USDM H23a1. I broke a rod on my turbo 96 lude and it destroyed the motor. I replaced it with a JDM H23 but haven't put the turbo back on yet.

 

hmm I don't think any JDM motors had the H23? It's not in the Japanese Honda spec book on their website...

 

Correct you are, there was never a ( non-VTEC) JDM H23. There was a comparable DOHC non-VTEC 2.2 liter (the F22b) in the JDM "Si's" (not sure what they called that trim level over there). There IS a JDM H23 with VTEC (VERY similar to an H22) that was offered in the Accord Wagon starting around 2000 or so, but I've yet to see one make it into a US car.

The H23A, while it may appear as JDM appears to be an Australian engine from what I have found so far...same specs as USDM

in japan there was an f22b dohc in the si's, same hp less torque, ......like 3 ft lbs
any non us h23, will be found in southern asia , australia, and south america, have fun

 

Well I guess the guy at the Honda dealership that put the motor in was mistaken. When looking up info on the motor from the s/n he couldn't find any in the US database he was looking at. He said that was because it was a JDM but the stamp on the block is H23A1 which is a USDM, right? Anyway, thanks for the responses.

 

If the block says H23A1 it is USDM....

would regular usdm h22 pistons work in an h23.


also what type of valvetrain upgrades are there for the h23

 

Usdm pistons = 11:1 compression
