I'd get the ITR trans because for the same price as a quaife + install, you can have a whole separate transaxle. You can either sell your old trans or keep it for backup.

How would a stock ITR transmission be better all-around than an Si transmission with a Quaife?

Maybe they're referring to the gear ratios...

dunno.

I can understand a 98spec JDM ITR tranny for the FD but then you'd have to swap the B16A 4th/5th gears in unless you wanted the weak 4th/5th.

Personally I'd do the Quaife and a JDM or ATS FD (assuming it fits in the casing, not too knowledgeable on Si trannies).

Eric: I know Del Sol DOHC VTEC trannies have the same ratios as the ITR tranny and *think* the Si one does as well. If not then I'd say get the ITR tranny with the factory LSD.. I'd rather have the ITR/DelSol B16A ratios and factory LSD then Quaife and GS-R or whathaveyou ratios..

They should look up the gear ratios between the trannies before speaking because one who has will find out that the Si and ITR have the same gear ratios.

edit: On the topic of comparing different trannies, which would be better for drag? GSR or ITR? GSR tranny has a closer gear ratio between 2nd and 3rd as well as 3rd and 4th.

That's exactly why I asked. For all practical purposes, the Si transmission is a USDM ITR transmission without the LSD. Now, as the crack-***** mentioned, the 98-Spec JDM ITR transmission does have a more favorable (to most people, anyway ) final drive and the factory LSD.

For the price, get the ITR tranny. It's the same ratio as the Si but the components are beefier plus you get your LSD and than you can sell your Si tranny.

Anyone know the answer to my question? Thanks and i hope ya don't mind me asking questions in your thread .

"On the topic of comparing different trannies, which would be better for drag? GSR or ITR? GSR tranny has a closer gear ratio between 2nd and 3rd as well as 3rd and 4th."

DON'T waste money on an ITR tranny!!!

All you need to have your VERY OWN ITR tranny (if you have the B16 tranny already) is:

JDM 4.78 Final Drive
JDM ITR/CTR LSD
Integra Type R shifter

And if you really want it to be like the 98 spec JDM ITR tranny, then get the 4th and 5th gears from a JDM ITR tranny..

One thing I'm not 100% sure about, is the syncros on the ITR tranny vs. B16. I've heard they are different... but I'm not sure.

Why spend the money on a USED ITR tranny that will probably grind 4 out of 5 gears? Keep your stock B16 tranny because you know what it's been through, and you know how it shifts. After you take it apart and put it back together with those components, it's going to be the same tranny, but better.

the SI and ITR have the same gear ratio and it's closer than the GSR. It'll be better for drag racing. If you have turbo, go with the GSR tranny. It's longer but your power from the turbo will make it for it. The SI and ITR tranny have the same ratio but it has different components. The one's off the GSR and ITR are beefier.

But the gearing on the GSR tranny is closer between 2nd-3rd, 3rd-4th, and 4th-5th. SO, the reason why the ITR tranny has closer gearing than a GSR tranny is just because of 2nd gear? You guys automatically disregard all the other gears. Or do you guys mean shorter gear = automatically better for drag racing?

Having closer ratios doesn't mean better for drag racing but in the situation with the integras, having the ITR ratios are good because it's pulls hard and you don't need to stay in third that long with the amount of power you have in your integra. You'll need to go into fourth in order to accelerate faster

Well I am going blind....which is why I do wear glasses...I have the Si/SiR tranny sitting in front of me plus a hydro GS-R tranny..

apart from the obvious, the gears are of a different ratio...and the final drive/ring gear is smaller on the Si/SiR...

what else is different here?

I see. I'm still a little confused about closer gearing not being beneficial for drag racing. So in your case you say you need to shift into 4th to accelerate. In the GSR tranny, you will land slightly higher in your power band when shifting into 4th as opposed to the ITR tranny. Don't you WANT to land higher in your power?
