Default Twin Turbo 4cyl??

Alright guys I have a question for ya. I havent been on in a while and ive been doing research. Anywyas i have a friend who has some crazy *** ideas for turboing that myself and a couple mechanics have proven to be total bull sh*t. However, I was wondering about twin turboing 4 cylinders. I always thought this was impossible because you only have 1 exhaust manifold. However, if you were able to make your car dual exhaust (true dual exhaust, not a split pipe in the middle) and made 2 exhaust manifolds (one manifold per 2 cylinders) you could then make a twin turbo 4 cylinder, right? my question is, since you only have 2 cylinders per turbo you would need fairly small turbos so would that be more or less effective than just having one huge *** turbo being run off all for cylinders?? Sorry guys I hope that all makes sense. Anywyas, if you guys dont mind throwing me some thoughts id love to hear them. Im trying to learn more about this stuff and this seems to be one good resource for info. Thanks!!

And, of course, quad turbos. First and foremost because turbos are FUN,
and forced induction can easily double the HP of an engine. As for why
*quad* turbos, multiple small turbos spool earlier, quicker and more smoothly
than a single big turbo. This means more usable, more tractable HP through a
larger RPM range. (Of course by using multiple smaller turbos instead of
one big honking one, you sacrifice some airflow potential at the very high
RPMs, but I think that's a reasonable trade-off in this case.) The reason
for using four slightly larger ones instead of 8 really teeny ones is that
with 4 turbos on a V8, each turbo is fed by two cylinders. In a four-stroke
engine, each cylinder produces power (and exhaust) only once every two
revolutions. By putting two cylinders per turbo, and setting up the timing
right, the cylinders will "take turns" shooting exhaust pulses through the
turbo, spooling it even faster and more smoothly.

Great thanks SP.
that makes sense. The other setup ive heard about before is a tri-turbo 4cyl. one of my friends mentionedsomething about rolls royce doing it?? I duno i didnt hear it properly. Anyways, the only way i could figure out that this worked would be if you had the whole idea of twin turbo w/2 manifolds, ALONG with another turbo on the INTAKE manifold. there doesnt seem to be any other place for it?? waht does everyone think of that? has anyone ever heard/seen a tri turbo 4cyl?? thanks guys! cheers

what did the veyron turn out to be a quad turbo or twin? either way 1000hp from the factory is sweet.

i do remember along time ago somebody was running a TT integra.

that overboost pic is sweet.

anyways, what about sequential turbos? I know that older supras are twin turbo, and they are inline 6 cylinders so there is only 1 manifold but dual sequential turbos. i do'nt know how this works but i just know it's out there. try seeing what's up with that and maybe that would be how you could work it.

going twin turbo on a 4-cylinder would be a waste.
reason being because just 2 cylinders of a little 4-banger do not have enough exhaust energy to spin any decent sized turbos. true, it would spool very quickly(depending on the compressor wheel size), but what good is two quick-spooling turbo's that wont make any decent power? none.

that's why a LOT of people with TT Supra's and such, will switch over to single turbo, so they can make the most out of all of the exhaust putt energy.

GZERO - Do you happen to have a bigger picture, or more pictures of that Supercharged RB26DETT ? If you do, I'd like to get my hands on them.
