What is a subsonic filter. I have a 12" L7 solobaric and wondering what this piece is and why is it required for a ported box.

A subsonic filter is used to filter off frequencies below 10 or 20 Hz to protect the sub from damage due to over-excursion. In a ported box, you don't have the sealed air behind the sub to act as suspension.

Or below the tuning frequency of a ported box.
