Default Acura dealer or Honda dealer?

here's my question, i'm a female driver of a gs-r '95 with 76,000 miles. the car need a new timing belt and tensioner, water pump (thermo) and drivebelts. went to acura dealer and gave me an estimate of $912.00 plus tax, while the honda dealer if I buy all the parts the labor is about $300.00 plus. but on acura dealer i will get the 12mos/12,000 miles warranty while on honda dealer i will get I think 3mos/3,000miles warranty. the price difference is more than $200.00. what do you think?

Thats up to you. Is 9 months worth of piece of mind=$200?

You might be able to take it somewhere and get the work done for less, just ask them to use honda parts!

Goo' Lawd!! 912$ for a timing belt change? I paid about 650 for mine(94GS-R). Really if they do the job right you probably won't need that warranty. If they fudge the job it will probably break before 12 mo anyway. I would go w/ the cheaper Honda place given a choice.

get a list of all the parts you need, buy them online, and then get the labor done at acura.

with my past experiences with dealers and timing belt changes,
i would recommend doing it yourself. then labor is free.
just spend the 75 bucks to buy the manual (i believe it's Helms or something)
it tells you how to do EVERYTHING!

That is way too much! I say to buy the factory parts and take it to a shop. I got mine done for about $180 total....

I actually work at a acura dealer, yeah they do get you in labor costs. It's up to $81 an hour and the mechanics don't see even half of that. If i were you i'd try and ask one of the mechanics to do it for you on the side. Most of the mechanics where im at would probably do it and you'd save at least $500. I realized workin at the acura dealership is great, I mean i get 50% off all parts and all my work is done real cheap on the side.

Buy your parts from either:

acuraautomotiveparts.net
ahmotor.com

Both places sell OEM Honda and Acura parts for at least 25% off dealer retail. I recommend ahmotors.com, excellent customers and very knowledgable staff.
Also, the timing belt doesn't need replacing until 90k, that is the first recommend interval for the belt. I didn't change mine timing belt/water pump until 108k on my 94gsr.

You can also buy the part and bring them a reptuable mechanic shop. A full timing belt change including the water pump, ps belt, ac belt, and alt belt should run about 3-4 hours labor. In the end, it's still cheaper than the dealer.

i agree that dealers take advantage of customers who seem like they don't know anything about prices.

Nothing sexier than a cute girl that's a gear-head!!
I know this one cutie that works on and mods her own car. SEXY!!

I agree with something else, try to find the parts you need and buy them ANYWHERE but an Acura dealership. They will RAPE you on parts!! Then, do it again with labor. But here are a number of places to get OEM Acura parts online such as: http://www.acuraautomotiveparts.net/...p/mws/home.htm.

Personally, I find it fun to learn how to do things, myself.

Good luck.
