I dont know anything about sound systems, help.
I wanted to add a extra 10 or 12 inch subwoofer in the car, and i know i need an amp to power it. I know i can power just the subwoofer, but can i get a certain amp, that can add more power to the other speakers as well? is that possible and would i want to do that? I mean, if i can get one amp, to do everything, that would be great, but if need be, i can just put in an additional amp to power the sub by itself.. because the car already has a stock bose amp. Thanks.
go with a five channel amp, i have an alpine and it sounds pretty good or u can go with the ppi 5 channel which costs about 650 bucks but it will sound real clean
If you in fact have a factory bose amp, check the speakers to see if they are 1 ohm. If so make sure any amp you get can handle 1 ohm load. Bose systems are usually best to replace everything.
I think i can replace everything except for the face, or deck. If i get a 5 channel amp, does the subwoofer have to have a cross over built in? thanks.
I've been posting this over & over like a broken record but look at http://www.mmxpress.com and check out the hifonics 5 channel amp they have for $250 and my personal fav the crossfire 5 channel (should be around $350)

I was thinking about the alpine v-power i saw at the crutchfield site, for like 199 dollars. What do you guys think about that amp?

the alpine for just a sub is looking a little expensive; especially for the bang per buck ratio.
If you want booming bass consider something with a little bit more power then some of alpines models, most in the $200 are great quality (excellent..) but lack with raw power.
A jbl bp1200.1 could be had for around $220 i belive off ebay and will leave you enough room to add anything you wish to your system in the future.
For the best overall, a 5 channel alpine amp would be great! It would give you nice power for your upfronts; plus usually a 150/200 watt for a single sub...this route; although more expensive then what u might be looking at now, will allow you to have a fully amped solution. There are many other names to consider, such as fosgate etc... who make great 5 chan amps.
Just say no to sony amps..

Edit: Heeeeeey , that hifonics amp IS looking good, are those Rms specs?? Nice price!
