Default a new look at my electrical problem, please help

problem: while driving, my lights/stereo/tach/anything electrical will turn on and off, kind of flickering

analysis: looking into it more, it will only happen when the engine is requiring a larger quantity of fuel. for example, idling, or not giving the car any throttle does not cause this. going up hills, where the engine is having to work, makes the problem apparent. sitting in neutral and reving doesnt cause it. going downhill, it will only happen once higher rpm's are reached (around 4k or so)

it sounds to me like there is a fuel delivery problem, and that it is electrical. could my fuel pump be perhaps going out? could there possibly be and aftermarket one in that my ecu cannot acomodate? (car was turbocharged, now stock...had zdyne when turbo'd)

could one or more of my injectors be going bad? this is the direction that i'm looking into. i am also throwing a code 17. the speedo cable is fubar, and i'd have to buy another one. that is the only reason i think it is throwing this code.

i have taken apart my gauge cluster, and everything looks as it should. no loose connections or anything, and everything is relatively clean for a 13 year old car.

any ideas/speculations?

i'm very sorry that we all are revisiting this problem again, i've gone through quite a few of the steps you guys told me about last time, and it seemed to narrow it down quite a bit.

Just from reading this it seems like you have something grounding out some place. If you have an aftermarket air intake make sure it is not hitting the positive terminal on your battery when you are driving (forward acceleration causing the battery to move and hit the intake causing it to arch between the batt and the engine compartment). I'd start from there.

After you're done checking out the belt, check the wiring conections to the alternator and the battery and make sure they're good and solid, make sure the engine's well grounded (did we already go over this?) A good solid conection from the battery to the chassis and from the chassis to the engine block / tranny.

it sounds to me like when you get on it, the engine takes all of the power for fuel / ignition and doesn't give any to the rest of the car.... this can happen when there's a good ground from the engine to the battery, but not from the engine to the chassis.

the ground wire going from the negative terminal of the battery looks kind of corrodid. it still is a very solid wire, but the outer casing looks as if it has been melted off in spots. like it got really hot. i never turned over the wire, so only saw the "good side for me

that looks like the first place to start. i'm going to redo my major grounds and see where that takes us. thanks alot guys

thumpu: did the guys with the LS from Bend ever talk to you about the second meet? they said they wanted to get together again this summer or spring and chill closer to the bend area.

While your doing the grounds, make sure that whoever did the Z6 swap put the ground on that goes from the valve cover to the upper radiator support.

I haven't heard from the Bend guys yet, but I'm down with a Bend meet. If I hear of anything I'll let you know.

they were talking about contacting me or racerj404 later this spring, i'm sure there will be another oregon meet, even if i have to set it up

the ground from the valve cover is there. seems to be fine. i'm almost thinking about pulling the motor just for kicks and checkin **** out. i'm going to need to soon anyways. it burns soo much oil. know anyone with a decent a6 or z6 for not too much money?

No, but in about a month I'll have my A6 in, and you can have my D15B1 with 230,00mi on it.

There's a guy in Kennewick WA on the board that I got my A6 from, he's always doing swaps for people and he ends up with their old d series motors... His H-T name is tSuperbike69. Try shooting him an IM
