Default h22 p13 ecu programs: Spoon vs Mugen vs Jun

Which H22 p13 programs have you tried? Please post specs (vtec x-over, redline, etc) and your driving impressions on which you've liked best and which one runs strongest between the Spoon, Mugen, and Jun programs for the P13. Thanks in advance

Mugen has never made a program for any H22A ECU.

Ok, yeah I wasn't sure if Mugen ever had a real program for the h22, but people do sell "mugen" ecu programs for the p13 on eBay...

Well since no one else is chiming in...

I don't have any personal experience with either Spoon or JUN chips. But I used to own a 1993 Prelude VTEC for 3 years. I bought a used Dinan ECU for that car. It was a real Dinan ECU, chipped by Dinan, originally purchased from Dinan. It had an 8100rpm rev limiter, and I think the VTEC X-over was stock. On my otherwise stock Prelude, it made a noticable difference. The car felt like it had more low-end and midrange grunt, better throttle response, and a smoothed over VTEC X-over. The ECU came with paperwork from Dinan that claimed 11HP and 8lb.ft. in peak gains.

I believe there's an ad in the classifieds for one right now! Hmmmm?

Well, then it's a fake.

There are mugen programs for both the p13 and p72 ecus. And also for a few others made specifically for the h22a...

Ok here my experience. A while back, my car with the stock ECU with CAI and exhaust it made 173 WHP and like 140 lb/ft of torque on the Dyno. I change the chip (Spoon) right there in the Dyno just to compare both and the new number were nice. It made 186 WHP and 151 lb/ft of torque. Across the powerband it gain 12-13 WHP and about 9-11 ft/lb of torque. If you ask me that's very nice.

The A/F ratio is 13.0 to 13.6 from 3,500 rpm to 7,700 rpm. Vtec x-over is the same 5,000 RPM and fule cut off is 8,500 rpm, but please don't rev your engine there. You need a JDM P-13 code-006 in order to use the chip. Also a V-AFC really help (vtec x-over 4,700 rpm). The stock ECU runs really rich, especially in the top end. With this chip you have to use 93 octane gas, especially with the JDM engine (CR 10.6).

Hmmn myabe this is why I am having issues. I didnt know that you needed a specific ECU code number to run the programs?? I thought all it had to be was a p13 JDM ecu. When I go home I will check the code and write out the whole number to see what is up.

Right now the ECU is only revving to 3k and cel light is always on signifying either a bad install or a bad EProm. I just however got a new Spoon chip so the EProm issue should not be a factor.

I have the p72 with the JUN program. Vtec kicks in at 5800, no red line. But to stay in vtec I have to shift around 7800. If this helps...

Well, while we are on the subject of chips... I have a chip that was custom tuned for Skunk2 stage II cams and bolt-ons for a US P13 ECU. This is just the chip and a socket for it. I don't have any use for it, so if anyone wants it... $65 OBO? PM me.

That X-over sounds like that chip is either a) a program for a B-series engine or b) a program specifically for JUN H22A cams.

A 5800rpm X-over is useless on stock H22A cams - you would just be losing power...

im running a P28...chipped to a Mugen GSR program, i have my vtec x-over at 4700....i have tried 3 different p13s..and none performed like the gsr ecu....i have not dynoed it, but it has pulled almost 102mph traps with only i/h/e/vafc/cam gears...and this isnt even dyno tuned...also my car pulls strong all the way through the rpm range, i shift at 7900-8000 when im racing...and given the p28 doesnt operate the secondaries, i have them open all the time, which does not hurt my performacein any way...peace

You have a single runner H22 intake manifold? Where from, and how?

I guy I know has an H22A in an 85 crx. He is using a mugen chipped ECU he runs 12.01@ 111 mph. He says his h22a has 221 whp. He still using stock cams!. Maybe I try one of those and compare it to the Spoon program.

I don't know how in the world you got those gains from a Spoon chip. I did the same thing by swapping out the ecu right on the dyno on a buddys h22 with a few bolt ons. He only gained 2whp throughout the entire rpm band. This was done with a real Spoon chip, not the eBay stuff.

I have a question. I have a p13 but the last digits are 900 J-AT which means its an automatic. I tried chipping with the spoon program however now the ECU is in toast mode and only revs the engine to 3k and the CEL is always on.

Now I was speaking to someone else and they said that I have to change the ECU to manual one before the chip would work.

Any comments, suggestions, ideas.?? Right now I have no VTEC and I am in withdrawl. Using the old 91 Accord ECU now in the meanwhile..

Hey that's my experience, Dyno proven too. I don't expect everyone to gain as much power as I did, since not all engine are the same. Some make less power some might make more. Just sharing my experience.

I ran a "JUN" chipped JDM p13 for a while. It had vtec at 5600 rpm, and redline was 8500 I believe. I didnt like it because vtec kicked in so late and I had to shift before 8000 since I am still on stock internals. It pulled hella strong though, and if I ever get new headwork done for revving high, I would definitely try one again..

The only other drawback was it ran rich (again on the otherwise stock motor).
