im still having trouble separating mine. i spread the snap ring on the end and pried it but it didnt budge. what else did you do.
get some one else the spread the snap ring and u pull up on the tranny housing and it should just pop and come up. thats not the hard part it is messing in side when u dont know really what u are doing....
be sure that the snap ring is pushed out as far as it can go!

then it gets a bit tricky.... I took mine to a local shop (that happens to be owned by a friend of mine) and they had to heat the area with a torch to get the aluminum around the bearing to expand, then they could get it out.
Any local tranny shop sould be willing to pull the bearing for you for a minimal fee... and it would be worth it.
that would help if i knew what all that stuff was...i need some pics...is there a manual that tells u how to do this with some pics?
please help i dont have the money to take this to a tranny shop and i want to learn how to do it..
or at least look at the directions and give me some pointers to were some of this stuff is and what it is.

ok got the trani apart!
pulled out the main shaft and all the gears.. man those little levers are a bitch and a half. but with that bar that holds the diff in. how the hell do you get to the bolt on the one side. its like underneath the shaft! anyways. u dont need those bearings pressed out. take a chisel and smash where the ball bearings are. then pry it off.

it cost me $10 at a local tranny shop to having my mainshaft and counter shaft bearings pulled. i performed all the other work on the tranny.
and a helms is not $20..but the chepo haynes is.
and you definitely need a manual when messing with a tranny.

man that big nut on the counter shaft!! jesus christ. had to take the grinder and chop it off.
mind you this is a spare trani.
o and also. whats the bearing that the trani shops do to DX trani's cause of that horrible trani noise.
is it top main shaft, bottom main shaft, top counter, or bottom counter. or is it the diff bearing?

if the horrible noise you speak of goes away when you push in the clutch, then it is the mainshaft bearing at the bottom (or as some people say "in the clutch housing") portion of the tranny. bring the case to a local tranny shop for them to pull out the bearing. best $10 i ever spent!
As far as the big nut on the counter shaft.... get a freind to hold on tight to the shaft with a couple of rags wraped around it, and use a good air impact gun to pop the nut loose.
as far as which bearing goes, My local tranny shop got me a kit, with all new bearings, all new syncros, and all new seals for $170. so if you just get the kit, you don't have to worry about which one, just replace them all!

Oh yeah, definately don't use a cheapo Haynes manual! they don't have any pics of the 88-91 trannies, just the 84-87 model.... you'll just get more confused!!!
get a helms

mainshaft bearing is much easier to do.
how the **** do i get this diff out!!!
god dam
got the diff out. u just pull DUH!
uhm this damage in the diff is very weird. the shaft that the spider gears spin on has litterally been lathed smaller on the ends and snapped off.
when i get some pics up i would like to know what u guys think happened.
