Question about VTEC cams
I have a question about the Skunk2 VTEC cams, and how they would work with my Civic 2000 Ex.
When do the extra 15-25 horsepower kick in, after VTEC or is it always working with your car. Also, what's the difference between the stage 1, 2 and 3 cams? Anything else I need to know before I get these cams? Thanks for the help.

they work by giving you more lift and duration... more air enters/exits the engine.
they work throughout the power-band, but you will notice the most power of course when the vtec kicks in.
if you haven't done major work to the engine, get the stage 1... the other stages are best suitable for "built" engines.
also try getting the cam gear(s), so you can tune the engine(cam(s)) properly...
hope this is enough info!
what kinkd of a motor/setup are you running?

The other thing to remember is that big cams like high compression. And fuel and igition tuning become critical. You can slap larger cams in a motor and only see 10 hp. Or you can get larger cams. higher compression pistons and fuel and tune the thing and walk away with 20-25 hp.
Like Joey said, they increase power throughout the power band. They obviously don't add 20 ponies suddently when the vtec kicks in!
They are definitively worth it, if you can afford them.

EX is SOHC so VTEC is only with intake, and you only have one cam... wrong forum, though. try the EG/EK civic forum, next time. but you'll still get answers from here if you post, just maybe not as many.
