Default newbie here_____PLEASE HELP.

hello all i have a 1993 honda accord all stock it has a 2.2L 4 cyclinder with auto trans. anyway i know vary little about honda's and would like to know how to boost my HP around 40 ??? Also how much HP do i have stock i was told 140HP.

Is there anywhere i can go to read and learn about honda aftermarket add-on's and how to improve HP?

I was thinking of a cold air intake but i dont even see the diff. between a cold air intake and a short ram intake? i need help...

I think what i really wana know is. Is my accord worth the work? or should i just go for a stock H22a? My engine has 240,000 on it and has had 2 rebuilds.

what do you guys think?

Anybody willing to let me e-mail them and ask stupid newbie questions because im completly lost when i start to read about honda on this forum..PLEASE HELP

thanks alot,
1993accord

I would not consider tuning that engine.. way to many miles.. I know its been rebuiled.. I still wouldnt chance anything like that. With the money you spend on bolt-ons, you could of been saving up for a swap. I would say a newer f22 series would be good (I.E - the 94 accord ex engines).

thanks all,

so how much is an engine swap? i really dont have more then about $1200 to spend. I was thinking of swaping to a H22a but was told that requires many alterations and i cant find one under $2000 what should i do?

$1200 is too limited of a budget for a swap
persoanlly I would save the money and build more on top of it
while doing that I would use the time to learn all I could about the car and it's dynamics, it will make the proccess so much easier
If I had done that when I started I wouldn't be scrapping together money to build a race car right now

Just get Nitrous for $500. Easy 40 HP. Save for the swap with the other $700. When you get the swap, or are forced to swap, put the n20 on the new motor.

[QUOTE My engine has 240,000 on it and has had 2 rebuilds. [/QUOTE]

that worries me a lot. there are plenty of people around who have that many miles on an ORIGINAL motor. I'll be very dissappointed if I don't get 200k outta mine, i'm halfway there right now. if you have been rebuilt twice then there is either some SERIOUS abuse involved, an incompetant rebuilder, or both.

what model of car do you have? ex, lx, dx? once we know that then we can tell you what engine and the hp you have on it. as of now it could be an f22a1 125hp, f22a4 135hp, or f22a6 140hp.
Just read eveything you come across here on the board and do searches for everything and read a lot. That will help you learn more about these cars. also try picking up a haynes manual at autozone, it's like 15$.
oh ya, on the search, make it open, like search for "intake" or "power" or "swap" or "h22". that will bring up a lot of topics that you can read on the matter.
about the short ram and cold air, that's an easy question. cold air runs all the way down to the front of your car bringing in "cold" air to the car. short rams stay in the engine compartment. CAI has potential to get more hp because of the cooler air.

cool, thanks again everybody
About the motor having 2 re-builds in 240,000 miles is because it was wrecked about 3 years ago and had to be re-built then what re-built at 193,660 when timing belt snaped and i belive threw a rod but was minor so was re-built then and about 2 months ago it went into pro care and got $1400 in missing parts put on that were left off by the goofs who did the previous re-build....if that all makes sence

my moter is sound but being 10 years old i know it needs work....

I really plan to have it 2 more years and wana see what can do with it....what are some MINOR upgrades i can do to help HP???

thnaks,
1993accord

PS..............my honda is a 1993 accord LX 2.2L (rare 2 door body) with all factory options(all power)

If you can find and exhaust mani from an EX that will give you some HP cheaper than a header. Also the IM from an EX will give a couple HP, but probably not cheap. AEM CAI is probably best bang for the buck for bolt on. Close to 10 HP gain at the wheels. Cam gear IMO second best bang for the buck, HP and being able to tune where you want your power band. Tighten up your throttle cable for free, and adjust your timing, advance it until just before it pings.

if i recall correctly, the wastegate is for when the turbo is at its maximum RPM's, a 'gate' opens up and bypasses the turbine so that it doesn't spin any faster. but then again, i dont got turbo, so i'm not exactly sure =\ if u wanna learn about cars and stuff, make a visit to www.howstuffworks.com and read up on the components about cars, and they even have a section on turbos.

i gotta auto 92 accord EX 2 door (rare as you said) with AEM short ram...only difference in performance i have noticed, is that it has a quicker throttle response, other then that, its jus a noise maker
