Default Hybrid timing belt tensioner?

I think it was SatanSRV that was talking about using the H23 timing belt tensioner on an h22. Can someone who might have done this already tell my which parts I will need....I have some stuff I want to install (cam gears) but the last time I did that timing belt it was a pain in the *** to try and get that auto tensioner pressed back in.

Which #s do I need?

Thanks
Mark

Goto hparts.com and type in the following part numbers: (these are honda part #s)
13404-PT0-004 - ADJUSTER COMP., BALANCER BELT
13415-PT0-000 - BRACKET, BALANCER BELT ADJUSTER
14510-PT0-004 - ADJUSTER COMP., TIMING BELT
14516-PT2-000 - SPRING COMP., TIMING BELT ADJUSTER
14521-P14-A00 - PLATE, ADJUSTER
90014-P14-A00 - BOLT, TIMING BELT ADJUSTER BASE
90015-PT0-000 - BOLT, TIMING BELT ADJUSTER SPRING
90016-PT0-000 - BOLT, TIMING BELT ADJUSTER
90140-P14-A00 - WASHER, PLAIN (11MM)

Looking at the picture you bascially need everything below the camgears, and to the left of the timing belt. Its just that assembly.

why is everybody changing from the auto tensioner to the manual tensioner? I see no problem with it? I haven't had any trouble with it at all. I bought the clip to use to re-install it, and it is easy to use. please tell me what is up with this, and any concerns there have been.

thanks,

mike

yeah I want to know too. my auto tensioner work fine. The auto tensioner is a good feature cause if there is any slack in the belt the tensioner tightens it up.

I just had my timing belt replaced and the guy at honda said that they have a update for the H22 tensioner because of some problems that they were having with the old setup. I don't remember the exact cost but it was something very low like 6 dollars or something.

Someone said before that the F22 parts would not work. I think the ones that are there will. The F22's just don't have a bracket or two, or that washer. My theory is that I can get most of the parts from the junk yard off a F22, and order the other parts from hondaautomotiveparts.com. Here are the two pictures:

F22

H23

And the part numbers from hondaautomotiveparts.com:

F22
34257 023 1 BOLT, TIMING BELT ADJUSTER
34253 017 1 ADJUSTER COMP., TIMING BELT (KOYO)
34254 017 1 ADJUSTER COMP., TIMING BELT (NIPPON SEIKO)
34247 010 1 ADJUSTER COMP., BALANCER BELT (NIPPON SEIKO)
13404-PT0-004 ADJUSTER COMP., BALANCER BELT (NIPPON SEIKO) 1 $48.69 $48.69
14510-PT0-003 ADJUSTER COMP., TIMING BELT (KOYO) 1 $47.07 $47.07
14510-PT0-004 ADJUSTER COMP., TIMING BELT (NIPPON SEIKO) 1 $47.32 $47.32
90016-PT0-000 BOLT, TIMING BELT ADJUSTER 1 $5.92 $5.92

H23
109818 030 1 WASHER, PLAIN (11MM)
34257 027 1 BOLT, TIMING BELT ADJUSTER
34253 018 1 ADJUSTER COMP., TIMING BELT (KOYO)
34254 018 1 ADJUSTER COMP., TIMING BELT (NIPPON SEIKO)
34247 010 1 ADJUSTER COMP., BALANCER BELT (NIPPON SEIKO)
13404-PT0-004 ADJUSTER COMP., BALANCER BELT (NIPPON SEIKO) 1 $48.69 $48.69
14510-PT0-003 ADJUSTER COMP., TIMING BELT (KOYO) 1 $47.07 $47.07
14510-PT0-004 ADJUSTER COMP., TIMING BELT (NIPPON SEIKO) 1 $47.32 $47.32
90016-PT0-000 BOLT, TIMING BELT ADJUSTER 1 $5.92 $5.92
90140-P14-A00 WASHER, PLAIN (11MM) 1 $2.88 $2.88

You can see that the part numbers are the same, you just won't be able to get everything you need off a F22, if these are all the parts you need:

13404-PT0-004 - ADJUSTER COMP., BALANCER BELT
13415-PT0-000 - BRACKET, BALANCER BELT ADJUSTER
14510-PT0-004 - ADJUSTER COMP., TIMING BELT
14516-PT2-000 - SPRING COMP., TIMING BELT ADJUSTER
14521-P14-A00 - PLATE, ADJUSTER
90014-P14-A00 - BOLT, TIMING BELT ADJUSTER BASE
90015-PT0-000 - BOLT, TIMING BELT ADJUSTER SPRING
90016-PT0-000 - BOLT, TIMING BELT ADJUSTER
90140-P14-A00 - WASHER, PLAIN (11MM)

This is all based on the info from here and hondaautomotiveparts.com. I have not actually tried it yet...

I am usung it because an upgraded valvetrain puts a lot of stress on the tensioner and the high lift/duration cams I have result in a constant tighening and loosening of the t-belt things that wear away the ability of the auto-tensioner pretty quickly.

From my point of view...I bought a power super strong t-belt http://www.power-enterprise.co.jp/exp/mini_img/belt.jpg so I am more concrned with auto-t failure than belt wearing out.

HAving a manual tensioner just means you have to service and make sure your t-belt is tight.
