Hey Guys,
I have emailed Bret once and I got a reply, but I could not get the answer I needed from it and I am sure he is busy so I thought I'd ask the users of his kit 1st hand.
Does Bret's kit use any of the mounting hardware on the inside of the subframe, the problem I am having is that I have the Beaks SRK kit and I have spot-weld'd ABS nuts inside the subframe. And they need to be removed, but I cant get the boogers out.
So I thought maybe I can just switch over to BSQ...

I believe with either kits you will need to take off those welded nuts. I am using the BSQ kit. I just unscrewed the bolt that's connected to the nut (about halfway), then hit that bolt HARD to break the welds. HTH
for BSQ's kit, you only need to take off 2 of those spot-welded nuts, I believe. Chisel and mallet or driving the bolt through to knock it off should suffice as Bret suggested.
Unscrew the bolt from the other side a little, and pound on it hard with a hammer. It will start to bend out the spot welded nuts. Then you can pry at them from the other side.
Good luck. You do have to hit them quite hard.

What angle are you guys hitting the bolt head to remove the spot welded nut? i.e. are you hitting the head of the bolt like a nail or from various "side" angles?

Straight on like it's a nail. Unscrew it a little so there's like 1/4 inch off. Then just hammer it HARD. It'll start to go screwy as you get it and go off at an angle. At that point, you'll see the spot welded nut start to separate from the subframe. As it does, do what you gotta do to get it off (pry a screwdriver into it, vice grips, etc).
Good luck. Make sure you got some good jackstands under there so when you whack it, nothing falls on j00.

I found the chisel method to be safer. I did the screw out and pound with hammer hard method and the subframe bent in slightly. I guess the spot weld were really strong on my car. So after that, I chiseled. Once you get one of the 4 spots out, its a piece of cake. But getting the first one out does take some fine chisel work.
