$423.05 for a brand new fuggin hood?!?!
Got my estimate today on my accident. The total came to $2424.55. The hood came to $423.05...anyway that I can get a carbon fiber hood on there painted to match for around that price??? I'm curious about if the place will do this or do most places have strict rules about **** like this. Carbon fiber would be more functional, but I want to make sure it's a good quality one if I do it. Otherwise, I'll stick to the OEM hood. Input is appreciated. Thanks!
Hey, if you still want an OEM hood... I have one for sale... It came off my 2001 GS-R... It's Tafetta White and is in PERFECT condition. I'm located in So. Cal... I don't know about shipping though... that's gonna be a bitch (the hood's heavy as hell). Throw me an IM.
Depending on the bodyshop they may try to bill you for a new hood on the estimate & instead buy a used one without you knowing. Beware of this happening, ask to see all receipts or the part before it’s painted, some places will also try to use non-CAPA approved aftermarket clone parts. Profit is king in the autobody industry, but at what cost? Yours!

If I were you, I get the check first from the insurance but don't cash it yet. Go around to different body shop and feel them out, to see whos alittle honest. Talk to the shop and see what they can do for you and thell them about the other shop's offer, if you have any. Usually they will buy aftermarket parts just as long as they don't cost more than the oem price.

From what I understand, the insurance company (the other party is paying) pays the autobody shop directly. I'm pretty sure I dont see any of the money, unless I am mistaken?!
423 sounds a bit high. if it included Body (installation) & painting, it sounds just about right.
423.85 hood
1 hr $36.00 body labor
4.8 hrs for paint labor
total labor 5.8 = 208.80
materials ???? (not set up for that on my home system YET)
Hazardous waste fee 10.00
cover fee 5.00 (if you blend the fenders to mach the hood depending how faded the clear coat is)
Taxes (depends on where your at)
total EST cost so far
$646.85
That's list price for a hood, from Acura Carland list for $415us, their price $332us. The body shop should be getting a discount, ie. jobber discount and not paying/charging you retail. I recently had my hood replaced, OEM hood was invoiced ~$300cdn. This is was a Honda/Acura body shop.
