d16y7 and safc
anyone else boosting d16y7 and using safc hack. went to apexi website and wiring diagrams do not show for d16y7. i don't want to assume it is the same as the d16y8 and be wrong and screw up my ecu. anyone in the know on this one?
If I were you, I would just buy a y8 swap instead of the safc. I blew my y7 about a week ago under 8 psi. Total **** motor. I got a y8 complete with tranny, axels, ecu, harness, everything, for $700.00. Now I'm gonna get the safc. I'm much happier with the y8. VTeK y0!!!! Just my .02.
EDIT: I know, I know, probably shitty tuning, but he headgasket went along with number ones ringlands. That alone is enough reason to get rid of the y7. Considering how cheap it is to get rid of it for a y8.

The wiring is the same as the D16Y8 for anything that invoves the AFC.
Nothing wrong with the Y7 block...I bolted on a Y8 head and turbo and made 206hp/184tq. Internally it's the same as the Y8 as far as I know. Same rods, pistons, etc. Head and oil pan are the main differences.

if you're getting a y8 swap, then you need the VAFC, not SAFC.

Be careful of how the AFC boost hack places your transition into boost and lower boosting range slap in the middle of your ignition maps where spark advance is at it's peak. OBD2 to OBD1 adapter harness and chipped P06 will probably cost you less than an MSD 6A and BTM, and the BTM still won't help you with most of the spark advance problem as you tip into boost.
If you feel up to doing the soldering on your own ECU to fit the resistors, cap, 74HC373 latch, and PROM socket I'll modify a P06 program, burn it to chip, and ship it to you in exchange for an 8 pack of Guinness in the can.
No, I'm not doing you a favor - I'm a miserable alcoholic.
Yes, you're right. For example, when I swapped in my Y8 head all I did was plug in the EX ecu, and re-do the wires for the IACV (and add a wire for the VTEC solenoid).
I had the Fields and VAFC both installed (not at the same time
) before I did the swap and I just used the original harness. I just checked the Helms beforehand and saw that all the wires were the same.
