How to remove paint from molding?

The hatch im buying has silver paint on the moldings. yuck!
What can I use to remove it safely?

i would think a heat gun would do the trick or a little paint thinner, either way it might discolor the plastic so be careful.

The idiot painted the plastic by the wipers and the lower grill too!!! yuk
