Default Check Engine Light

Hey, yesterday my check engine light came on. I have a h/i/e and a vfac. My intake is AEM cold air, it was also raining yesterday. What happen was I was driving around, went into a store and when I came back and started my car the check engine light was on, and my fuel/air meter was on green. It didn't blink or anything. Usualy it is in the orange range and the green blinks. I got home and checked my filter and it was pretty wet. I left it alone and the morning when I started my car the fuel/air meter is working back to normal but my check engine light is still on. Is my car ok, was it the rain that caused this, what should I do. How do I check my codes for the check light? Any help would be awsome.

thanks

There is a little blue plastic pin connector behind your glovebox...pull that out, and with the key on ON, take a paperclip and connect the two pins together. You will see a series of flashes of the CEL. Those flashes correspond to a number.

IE:
1 Long flash, 4 short flashes = Code 14
4 Long flashes, 3 short flashes = Code 43

Go here to see what your code means if you dont have a helms:

Did you notice anything when you were driving, or was it completely normal? And the AF guage was stuck at all the way rich...it didnt bounce around at all? Where is your 02 wire tapped? Check that connection, especially if its from the 02 wire itself.

Car drove normal, it hit vtec and seemed to be fine. Not sure where the O2 was taped at, I will check that tonight after I get home. I just drove it and it seems ok, the AF gauge is acting normal now, but the check light is still on. Thanks for all the info.

Do what NEWGSRDRIVER said, then if it's nothing, just reset your ecu and you'll be fine. It could have just been a misfire in one of your cylinders.

check this out, I heard this might work to reset check light. First unpluged my battery for about 2 hours, that didn't work, light still came on, then a friend which is a honda tech told me to start the car, unplug the neg side of battery and that might work. as it turned out, it did. No more check light, he stated that the rain might have thrown some sensor off, but that it should be fine. No noise, no performance difference, but I will be watching it for a while to make sure my engine isn't F'd up.

thanks for the help

Ahh, cool, glad to hear it. 2 hours though?! I think 2 minutes would have been enough.. or maybe you were trying to make that code go away. You shoulda checked the code first though, it woulda told you the problem and you wouldn't have to sweat it out. Owell, next time just pull the fuse under the hood marked ECU.. that will save you some time.

Well, bad news, the check light came back. Do you know where this blue plug is, I have 97 GSR. I looked all over behind the glove box and nothing. Any help would be great.

Thanks

take the screws out of the pass. right side kick panel and look for a little green boot with a couple of plugs running into it, pull the plug with the two wires (can't remember the colors) and use a jumper wire (i.e. paper clip) and use the info that was presented before to decipher the codes....

You can get them for cheap at a salvage yard. Did you check yours first? Make sure it's clipped into the harness and screwed into the piping. I've also seen one where the wiring was hitting the exhaust and it shorted out.
