Default B16 Pistons in a GS-R?

I've been told that if you do this that it increases your compression thus improving performance. I've never heard this before and was wondering if it's even a mod worth doing? Will the gains even be that significant?

I've heard about making the poor man's ITR with a B16 head on a GS-R block, but not this. Doesn't the head need to be P&P to necessarily be up to ITR spec/performance? TIA to all knowledgable about this.

with a stock GSR head and block. USDM b16a pistons will give you about 11.3:1 cr. but after talking to others about it, i would rather go with ITR pistons because it will give you the same CR but it is a better built piston with moly coating.

What's moly coating? This is only on ITR pistons?
(I'm an idiot)

yes.. the moly coating is only on the R pistons (b16B and b18c5)

the JDM ITR pistons (p73 00) yield 11.33 CR, while the pr3 b16a pistons yield a CR of 11.34.

I suggest if you want to have the higher compression, get the itr slugs... they are moly coated, have the oil holes where wrist pins connect, and yield almost the exact same compression as the PR3. The moly coating apparantly gives you more protection against cylinder wear. If it was me, id go itr for sure.

I believe jdm honda parts still sells them, if not AJ racing in BC has em, and so would InLine4.

but what other kind of internal work would you need in order for everything to work smoothly?

in terms of internals.. take out old pistons, press out wrist pin, put on new slug, press back in.

Its a good idea to get the cylinders refreshed because then you will have a fresh surface. it is not absolutely necessary, but it is a good idea. Also.. change the rings, they are about 25 bucks per piston.. I believe taht all b-series rings are the same.. if in doubt use b16a, or gsr or itr. they should have the same part #
