i think u have to leave the pump becuz it provides fluid for the rack n pinion. just take ff the belt.

if you decided to take the power steering pump off then try to change power steering rack and pinion to a manual rack and pinion so it wont get messed up.

Hey BOOSTEDCVC. Here is the deal with racks.. Power steering fluid isnt a lubricant. it does NOT lubricate the rack... SO, knowing that you can completly remove your power steering pump, drain ALL the fluid and drive on it forever and you wont have a problem... ONLY side affects are its harder to turn and parallel parking is a bitch... THE GOOD side is you gain anywhere from 5-7hp to the wheels DYNO PROVEN. PLUS, when your on the freeway the car feels alot smoother... you dont get PULLED into ruts as easy, its easier to drive.... I love dit when mine was off for a year and a half, but my wife couldnt park it very well so i put it back on....

anyways.. yank that bitch...

there was a write up how you can connect the in/out lines on the rack and tap a line to add a breather so the fluid can stay in the rack, self contained and no pump, I didn't book mark it but do a search, it was very detailed.

Search the ITR forum for this, there is a detailed procedure outlined, last time I looked it was over 5 pages long.

Hey DIY_RACING, are you sure you don't need the fluid. I have always read that you DID need the fluid.

FARNSROCKET. Yes i am very sure. The fluid is what pushes the rack. There is no lubrication needed. Two friends, and myself have ran BONE dry racks for a total of 3 years... RACE track, daily driving. Not one problem. Only reason people will leave fluid in the rack and block it off is it is supposed to make turning without the powersteering a bit easier... In my opinion its not. ahah Its just as tough with or without it. I work for a car dealership and your best bet is go ask a technician... They will tell ya..

I'm thinking of removing my PS too. I was thinking of removing the belt and draining the fluid. Will that work?
