Not a profesional painter... just read stuff in the internet.... prayed a little bit and started spraying.
Then read more stuff in this forum for the engine and suspension swaps.

Thanks.
Several weeks because the air compressor I have cannot sustain correct presure on the HVLP spray gun. Had to do it by portions.
Friend helped out with the clear coat because that was very thick and needed higher HP air comp.
Total paint cost plus thiner and other solvents = $400.

Which gun did you use? How large of a compressor would you reccommend, and any sites to help the novice?

U will need.

1. HVLP spray(150-200$) gun with a fine point. (paint shop will know what number depending on paint thickness.)
2. Air compressor than can sustain 10cfm@80psi.

Painting is not difficult. Preparing the area to be painted is the hard part. This is 80% of the effort. Spraying the paint can take as little as 3hrs.

Even a hairline scratch will stand out on a newly painted area. ( It will have to be sanded down again and repainted).

For the websites..... I just went to google and type "paint HVLP FAQ" Lots of topic showed up and just kept on reading.

Paint prep.....
My car was a $2000 beater with dings dents.
The basic concept was to remove dents as much as possible.

Once the dents are almost flat, the surface is refined by some putty (use something that is the least absorbent). This is also the hard part because you have to make sure its really smooth and follows the contour of the body. U put putty, sand, put putty, sand......etc.
Then spray paint prep and primer. Sand again to using #600 to make sure its smooth and flat.
Once you think its flat and smooth, get your spray gun and start coloring.
