Default B20 impressions

With my GSR engine getting up there in miles, I'm considering swapping the C1 out for a B20 longblock and use my GSR tranny. Some may think I'm crazy for doing so, and don't get me wrong... I love the C1's top end, but hate the lack of low end, hence my reason for getting the B20. I want to also throw some cams in the B20 to gain some top end, as well as more power throughout the entire powerband.

Do any of you guys run a B20 in your Tegs, and if so, what's your opinion on it? What kind of cams are good for daily driving and factory reliability? What will I need to do about wiring harnesses, seeing that the B20 will be OBD2 going into an OBD1 GSR? Thanks a lot guys

the B20 is great for the low end, and if you put some cams, pistons(high compression), etc. you will be plenty happy with the end results. I am (check sig) As for the obd1 it will prob run ok b/c once the ecu doesn't see that there is a vtec solinoid it will disregard it, so you don't have to worry about the vtec switching on/off. But if you want it done right since you are obd1 already just chip your ecu and your done.

hmm...honestly...if were to do it over again...i wouldve just stuck with my C1 sleeve and bore to ~85mm...my B20 Vtec is fun and cool but in the end im gonna have to sleeve it anyways because the B20's sleeves canT handle high revs..the crank wasnt designed for high revs either...so i wound say B18C (sleeved and bored) is the way to go...im just speaking from my ( relativly little) experiance and regrets... Peace! Happy New Year!

Well I was considering a full rebuild with OEM P73 parts... but there is a lack of capable shops in my area to do all that stuff. I figure that I can sell my c1 longblock, and have enough to pick up a B20 longblock from JDMHondaparts.com for 750+ship. I don't want the hassle of too much downtime, I'd rather just plug and play rather than wait forever for my motor to get rebuilt. A buddy of mine just had his D16z6 fully rebuilt to handle the turbo kit he picked up. Too bad it took almost 6 months for him to get his car running again because the mechanic at the Honda dealership was doing it on the side, but had no time to work on it. He still ended up paying 1500+ dollars.... ouch

I have a B20b in my Civic coupe w/ GSR tranny. If you open it up and let it breath it will have plenty of power. I have b18b Throttle Body, intake manifold, intake cam, pos warm air intake, 4-1 header, 2.5' test pipe, 2.5' full cat back (n1 style) advanced timeing and i run on low octain 87. and thhat is enough to roast all the way threw 2nd gear chiping 3rd and 4th. And when i race my buddies fwd TSi Talon i kill him off the line and pull until the end of 4th gear at the VERY end he pulls on me barley and hardly beats me. He has a Fully build bottom end, upgraded turbo, piping, trust down pipe, test pipe, 3' full exhaust and can handle 25psi of boost. (he ran 13.9 @ 16psi on street tires) and i raced him when he was runninf 19psi of boost. (his car shoots flames from teh exhaust.. no lie) So i think you will be plenty happy with a B20 setup. I have a DX coupe w/ full interior and when i ran him i had my tools, 6 sets of infinity kappa 6 1/2's and 2 tool boxs haha... I think my car would be running even better if i had 5w30 or 10w30 cuz im running that vr1 racin strait 50w oil. (Ahh way too thick) but yeah. you will like the low end of the b20. you will take anyone off the line so hard they wont be able to catch back up.

Its definitely a nice motor... It would be nice to get an aftermarket clutch.. If you run a b20z, you are already starting out with 9.6 CR, you can always port and polish and mill your gsr head, get a thinner head gasket and your compression should be up there... put the gsr head on your bottom end and you have almost an 11.5 CR, get basic bolt ons like intake/headers/exhaust and you should have no problem hitting mid 13's with that setup

i call bs on this one. talon at 25 psi....vs b20b in civic coupe..you smoke him till the end of 4th...NOT. anyways, i dont know if youre saying that you want to do a b20/vtec or just get the b20 by itself and drop it in. either way i say youd be better off doing a rebuild w/ higher compression pistons....and stroke it out to 84mm

Hmm..

"Can Handle 25psi" NOT " WAS boosting 25psi"

He was running 18.5-19psi of boost when i raced him.

Why would I lie about it. If i was going to lie i would say he was boosting 25psi and i won and only mods i have are a Type-R sticker and a Fart can (sarcasem). Buts lets get real, Lieing isnt fun and the truth is always the right way to go. And another thing that isnt fun, Callin the BS flag on people you dont know, Cars you've never seen, Never raced, Never heard of. I dont know if you misread my post, But incase you did mis read it sorry about the sarcasem. if you did mean what you said to be spitefull then pitty on you.
