Anywhere to put gauges in a sleeper/functional manner?
Well i picked up my Defi EGT, Oil pesure and boost gauges along with the display here recently. I was wondering if there was any where I could mount them (yet still funciontal) that is some what out of plain site (no pillar column). If there is no way really then I will proably just mount them on the pillar. I did have thoughts however about buying the defi triple gauge hood
and trying to mount it to the middle of the dash so that it could pop up and down and be hidden. Of course if I went this route I would acquire a spare dash and do some of the work my self and outsource some as well. Would this be possiable/worth the troulbe? Let me know what you all think or see some pics of your sleeper yet functional gauge installs. By functionall I mean you can actually see it while driving so no glove box stuff or really low out of general eye line/site (i.e. down by the ash tray)

Build a fiberglass enclosure similar to the one pictured only upside down. Mount it o your headliner in front of your moonroof (if you have one). To a normal person looking in the car, they will be very hard to see due to the angle at which you look in a car. They will be easily seen by a quick glance from you. Angle toward driver position if neccessary. I did this with a grahic EQ a few years back just so when people looked in they didn't even notice it.
if you have them on the headliner,...how will you be able to see them, they would be out of your line of sight
i was thinking of a panel on the right side of the center clumn where the stereo and heater controls are, have them slightly tilted toward the driver, they wouldnt be that far from the line of sight.
i guess the best way would to be to thinkj of how to nicely incorporate them ont he center guage cluster....

it would be difficult to find a place to put them, and still be in clear sight. you could relocate the ac controls(those 2 *****, one for the fan speed, the other for the temp) and put 2 in those slots. or you could make something like this and move the head unit down and put this in this spot...damn let me find the pic..i will post it later
I've seen a homemade guage cluster surround for an accord like for the civics and tegs. it turned out really nice. so if you were good with fiberglass and bondo you could make one like that.
You could mount them in place of your radio. not totally in your vision, but not way outta sight.
maybe some sort of flip down visor mount. you'd have to find a thin display, but I see car audio stuff up there all the time.
mount in place of clock
the current body style sentra has a flipup center dash storage area. it would be ideal for what you were thinking of doing custom. check it out
the vent idea is a good one. ive seen kits for mustangs, GNs, audis, and miatas

Those are big gauges. I was wondering if three 2-1/16" gauges would fit in a DIN space? I guess a DIN space is 2" tall?

this is a MKIV jetta but i was thinking maybe something like this
i was thinking and maybe this may sound dumb or really impossible to do but, put the gauge where they are in this pic, and maybe you can or go to a shop and have them fabricate where you can just push on top of the unit and it hides in to the dash . when you need them push on top of the unit and out comes the gauges....."hmmm think of pushing on your cupholder when you push on the lid the cupholder pops out nice and smooth, then when you dont need the cup holder you just push it back into place..............................**** maybe i should do this...............

I believe that is a gauge cluster/pod from an older rabbit/GTI. Some of them came stock with gauges for volts (and two other things I can't remember).?
