Default Factory Immobilizer and alarm

For the Integra owners with the factory installed immobilizer key, what did you do with the immobilizer after you got an alarm? And what alarm do you have?

Also, is that immobilizer even useful against thieves?

I plan on getting a Clifford alarm, but not sure which model yet.

You will need to get the 555U modual which requires the use of an extra key with the immobilizer chip in it. This will work with the clifford alarm into fooling the car that a key is inserted for remote start. If you will not have the remote start option, then you wont need this. Keep in mind, its about an extra $100 because the modual is 20-30 bucks and then 75 for a new key from Acura.

But the thing is, my car came with a separate immobilizer key that you plug in under the steering column.

Do any integra owners have this? My car came like that from Acura.

There is probably a chip in the car key, but I don't think I'll be getting remote start with the alarm.

i dont think that is a factory installed piece. i have never seen anything like that on an integra in the 5 years of installing alarms.

I have its called a pro lock.....its a simple circuit interupt that dealers have added to give it a little something xtra ( KA-Ching) they come with with keys that have printed circut boards on the end or slots that match up the interupted circuit.

Imagine a lo-tech starter interupt peichie.

In this case, I doubt its very useful then. If this circuit is a basic starter interup setup, just bypass it with the remote starter.

or tap into the starter wire after the interrupt. audioroach, is it similar to the underdash flat key gm used to use in the late 80's?

that's exactly what it is. so you guys think this thing is useless compared to, say a clifford alarm?

This thing is more than usless from what ive read.

My clifford system has starter interrupt, ignition interrupt, a wireless clifford interrupt for another vital engine function, and a few kill switches for when i park in the ghetto.

The Clifford Avantguard 4 alarm was expensive, but I think its on of the most advanced systems on the market. Its better to put in a little bit more now to protect all of the time, energy, and sweat I put into my car.

that prolock thing is useles.. after I lost the chip for mine I just clipped off a safety pin and stuck it in there sideways... its basically 1 starter wire interupt with 5 grounds... all you do is ground out teh starter wire and it fires up...

Well when you consider the avg price of a basic security system with keyless/starter intrupt/hood and trunk hatch protection in the $200.00 range
it really would seem like a given.....but in reality we would rather spend the bucks on JDM,HID lights,Wheels/Tires/guages/mobile video etc than try to keep our cars ...ours. Every day we get a post of someone was either ripped off or had thier car staked out or an APB for missing parts.

Sure security systems aint the coolest thing and they dont stop the pro with a shopping list to fill...but something beats nothing. All of the interupt circuits in the world wont stop a few guys with Makitas,2 ways nad a scanner from stripping your carwhere it stands.

thats why Ive backed my system up with backup batteries, stealth wiring, and several horns. spending the change now, makes me feel a lot better than thinking about sending all of the reciepts to the insurance company in hopes of them covering it.
