Default zc back to DX question

eh, my zc is going have to be worked on (kinda good cuz I'd like it out so I can play with it). How hard would it to be to convert back so I can use the dx engine for a couple months, but then easily able to throw the zc back in when I'm done.

I sold my 91 DX ecu when I did the swap, can I use an 88 DX ecu? I've also got the wiring from the 88 too if that'd make things easier.

thanks
Joe

You can put the DX long block, but use an Si intake manifold.
Or, I think the ZC manifold bolts right in.
that way there is no rewiring to do afterwards.

thats what I did when i got my Si motor rebuilt. I bought me a DX motor/tranny then pulled my Si motor, put the DX in, slapped on the Si intake/header/ axles and it was good to go.

cool, can anyone verify this? That'd be damn easy and I wouldn't have to drive on a DPFI for a couple months.

** If I did this what ecu would I run. I doubt I could use the 88 DX ecu with the MPFI, but would the 89 teg work?
-thanks

Sorry to say the ZC intake will not bolt up to any other D-block. All 88-91 DX are DPFI so wouldn't work in this situation. A 88-89 teg ECU will work if staying MPFI will be rich though.

Shew not really, unless you want to unwire and rewire, or you can get any other D block MPFI intake manifold with throttle body ZC's do have different T/B, that will bolt up to your DX. I've never tried the ZC intake manifold on a D block but I know skunk2 has a seperate on in the works and always heard it will not work now the T/B i know will not work.

what are u saying... i am not sure that if the ZC intake manifold will fit... its considered a D series but not D-block..... doesnt matter if he was a DPFI... he only needs any OBDO intake manifold to run his engine.... wich if u ask me his intake manifold works.... i will just take his IM and put it real quick on the DX to see if it works... will take only 1 hrs if u do it urself..

Well then you search. Everybody Ive ever talked to said it will not work you would have to drill new holes the ZC are off set differently. ZC was the odd ball of the engines nothing can x-over from a ZC to any other D series correctly the exhausts really don't match up even though people try them. I know will only take less then an hour its 7 bolts and 2 hoses correct.

so what MPFI manifold will bolt up to my DX? just the 88-91 si? I got one from a 93 delsol at my friends house, but I doubt that'll fit.

What about the dizzy, I see people doing mpfi swaps and having to use the SI dizzy.

I just need a way to get this DX back in quickly and cheap..don't wanna drop a lotta $$ cuz its just coming back out in a month or 2.

later

The del sol will work. It will bolt right up. Just need to swap the injectors. everything else is plug and play. May have to do some re-routing for the coolant lines but thats it. As for the Diz your right. Damn it the ZC has the CYL position sensor on the exhaust cam and the SI has it in the Diz. In this case you would also need a new diz. this is starting to suck,

damn, this is starting to suck, but its prolly the easiest way to do it.. What dizzy do I gotta use. I know the 88-91 SI will work, but it there any oddball ones that I dont know of that would fit that I may be able to find easily?

Anyone got a working SI dizzy that they will let me get damn cheap?

thanks
Joe

ZC inake manifold will not work. The bolts have 4 on top and 3 on bottom, normal d series has 3 on top and 4 on bottom. Its just backwards. Everything OFF of the ZC manifold will work for the SI though... TB will work, fuel rail, injectors, etc.
