General tuning questions
Ok..
So I've been tuning my standalone to 14:1 for vacuum, and 12:1 for boost
(13:1) for transition).
I have not touched ignition timing at all. I've noticed that the stock maps
for my EMS already retards timing depending on boost. (looks to be between
.5 to 1 degrees per lb of boost).
Now aside from tuning for MAX hp (take car to dyno, and advance/retard depending on hp made), do I have to touch the ignition timing at all if I am
not detonating?
I know I need to get to the dyno to tune for most HP, but is it alright for
me to run as long as it's not detonating and the a/f is good?
Thanks.

yes, but after a few clean runs with dialed in a/f mixture, you then have to clean up your timing maps to get the motor to accelerate properly, 0.5 to 1 degree at a time, dependant on your boost levels, do go over 26 max on 15 psi and so on ... thats when you hit HG failure without evne picking up detonation first ... if oyu have an EGT use that as a guide to fine tune your ign timing maps.
if you dont adj your timing who knows what they are now, your car wont make the power it should be making.

how do u even know the timing maps that aem gave u are even good? do u have a stock honda map to compare the value's too?

Good question.
I have the values of the b18c1 stock ignition timing, and the numbers are not
incredibly far off.
For the most part, all values are +/- 1-2 degrees, with the exception of some high rpm, low load areas where there is an excess of 5 degrees advanced from stock.
I don't have an EGT so I don't know if I'm running too hot in those cases..
Should I just set everything to pretty conservative timings.. and then start advancing until I start getting some knock voltage? Then retard it 1-2 degs?
