Bought a 90CRXSi - spec out a b16 for me? Please?
Hello there, I'm totally new to this board - so forgive me for being lame. I'm about ready to go forward and buy a b16a.
I'm totally new to this and wanted to start with some help. What to do first? Could anyone give me some suggestions and stages on this build?
Should I just stay stock on a b16a, what would you do first for some extra performance?
thank you
-G

the question is.. how fast do you want to go?
are you prepared for your car not to be smog legal in california?
how much do you have to spend?
what will you use the car for?
b16a swaps into crxs and civics get ya into mid-high 14's..
it cost about 2300-3000 to have a shop do it..
or about 1100 to do it yourself..
give us a lil more info please..

I still want to use the car as a daily driver, it's just that the car is due for a new engine. I think the b16a will provide some new life into the car, my question is "what would an average person look to throw into a stock b16 for a little extra kick?" I'm not looking to race by any means I just wanted something a little more peppy under the hood. There are ways for the car to still pass smog right? What are these steps? Thanks for the info on the pricing I've heard many aspects of the almight dollar when it comes to this.
Is the b16a even what I should go for? I want something fun?

Well, that's the B16A in a nutshell... definitely more serious than stock, but still 'fun'. It's pretty damn fast, too... I beat an IROC (I think it was an IROC?) tonight that tried to pass me (though not by much!).
In order to pass smog, you have to find a shop that won't check the blockstamp... they want to know that the engine under the hood is the same year or newer than the car body itself. It helps that it's the same displacement as well. Also, they run a check on the blockstamp, to see if it's stolen... obviously, Japanese engine stamps aren't going to be in the SoCal computers, so that's where the main problem lies. I'm not from California, though, so this is heresay
.
As for making it faster...? I wouldn't worry too much about that. My B16A is dead stock, and like I said, I beat an IROC tonight (I believe they're a 5.7L 350ci automatic?) so I'd focus more on upgrading the brakes and tires
. HTH.
