Did my engine just blow out of nowhere? pls help fast
Hey, I just got home from a friends house and pulled my car in my garage. The car ran fine as normal all the way home. He gave me this braided looking wire (used to go over hoses), and I decided to test it out as a ground wire (just for looks). Well I put it on and started it up. Car started up a little quicker but sounded a little different when I took my foot off the clutch while it was in neutral. I gave it a couple revs (none over 5500) and looked it my rear view mirror and my exhaust was pouring white smoke (may have a hint of blue in it). I shut the car off and put the old ground wire on. I took it for a spin around the block and it just smokes up the neighborhood and runs really shitty when trying to give it gas (1st and 2nd, didn't even go to 3dr). I took it home and noticed some oil spots in my garage. Well I jacked up the car to take a look. There is oil on the bottom of my cat, cant see where its coming from unless its just coming from where the cat meets the downpipe. There is also a very small bit of oil on the thing where the oil filter screws in.
So what gives? This seems pretty serious and I didn't even do anything...Can anyone give me any help, this is my only car..

thanks
Joe

could be a loose oil filter. I think, but am not sure, that the blue smoke is antifreeze/coolant. Try tightening up your filter. As for the shifting that most likely completely unrelated, even though it may have happened at the same time
the oil filter is as tight as I can get it hand tight. When I was talking about the shifting I just meant that the engine is running like its blown. Hard (very rough)(slow) accleration.
well if your car is in neutral, and you rev it does it still bog down? if not its probably an oil leak in the clutch housing.
nah, it revs fine, it just runs really shitty while driving. I just checked the oil and its about a millimeter below the lowest dot. I don't know if it was like this before all this happened or if I just lost that much oil in all the smoke or whatever.
I just got done replacing the clutch last week..ya think this is related?

ya think that could be it, I did notice a little bit of coolant loss.
what about blown rings, is there anyway to know for sure what it is?

Alrighty if blue is oil and your engine revs fine when you have it in neutral i say check the exhaust piping for oil on the surface, if its on the surface you might wanna check for leaks in the tranny. If the blue smoke actually comes out of the tail pipe then i say listen to these other people. not i
p.s. check your tranny oil level and engine oil level, that'll narrow things down too

eh, I'm trying to decide what to do. I'm driving my moms car at the moment, getting up at 5 and taking her to work, but I dont know how long I can do this. I've considered throwing my DX back in w/ a 93 delsol intake manifold, but can't find an SI dizzy and also afraid i'll run into even more problems.
How hard would it be to replace the head gasket, rings, valves or whatever it may be? And can you visually see that these things need replaced after taking off the head? I've never done any internal motor work before. How hard is the job and is there any special tools i'll need besides my basic metric sockets and a torqe wrench?
Anyone in Ohio wanna come down and help me out for some beer or something. I'm in akron.
