Default DIY in car camera mount for $50

Pics and info here

The "compact ball head" camera mount is made by SILK and you can google to find one online:

ClIcKy p0W!

Nice for auto-x, track days, trips to the store...

I've had this for a year or two but the other Trey wanted some pics so here ya go dood.

[edit] Thanks (the other) Trey for hosting the pics and stuff. [edit]

Be aware that when it comes to HPDEs some instructors will not get into a car that has stuff connected to the headrest, like a camera mount w/ camera...

FYI...

Which is why mine is a modified version of this "stab the driver in the neck"bar....

My bar ain't going anywhere as long as the seats stay bolted in the car.

Cool - it's also something else to hold on to when backing up.

Good point Matt. I asked Trey for these pics cause it is a cheap option that is MUCH MUCH safer than the one he posted that is a safety issue.

I need to talk to George (Expo Safter Steward) but I think we might be willing to allow this sort of design.

Good idea to check on this issue - at least then I'll know if I need to put my B-pillar bar back in!

Put a rubber gromet on the end of that thing!

You can get some at the local hardware store as rubber caps for chairs.

I will email Trey and see if I can rehost them on ITRCA. There is some concern that this is not instructor safe camera mounting hardware since it mounts to the headrest. We will allow it to go in the car when no instructor is in the car though.

Can the trunk cover remain in the car during lapping sessions?

I tried one of those at a local "illegal" and it didnt work out too well. Hit me in the freakin neck. I think if i make one imma try to mount the camera as close to the headrest as possible or make one with the poles from a headrest so it kinda replaces the headrest.

I crashed the **** out of mine (stab you in the neck model), without incident.

4real Ken? Guess there was somethin different there...OR maybe because im 6'3!

For those of you with Recaros have you thought about some type of clamp or strap that goes through the to Belt slots?

This is what I want to know....I thougt of a couple of different ways ...but none are stable enough to keep the camera straight.

At one of my last track events they wouldn't let someone use one of these. Probably need to check with the group you're running with. I think they were worried less about the camera going anywhere than the driver going somewhere.

i always wondered why dont u do it across both head rests, if u r worried about it stabbing u in the neck that will take care of it. when i make mine thats what im gonna do unless there is some downside that i cant think of.

drivers seat might not have a headrest ie race bucket, also if the seats are not at the same angle the bar across wouldnt work.

i thought of possibly connecting something to my cpillar bar. anyone ever done that?
