What to do with > $1000 /month?
Ok, here's the deal. Im 16 and have a crx and make over $1000 a month. It varies... this month Im getting over $2k... damn websites are unreliable
Well, since everyone my age saves up for a car and I already have one, Ive got some money to put into my crx. Im just curious as to what you would do if you had my budget.
Isnt it great not having to pay bills
christmas, however, did put a dent in me.
The downsides are I dont have a garage, and I dont have tools to do any big jobs. But hell, I think you could take apart most of a crx with a 10mm and 12mm socket and a phillips screwdriver
Anyway, just looking for some guidance. I just dont want to get in over my head.
btw - its an 88 si

I think you should get a new Suspension Set-up....
KONI Yellows ~ 510
H&R Race or Sport Springs ~ 150
So thats about 660...
Now for Performance...get I/H/E..you can spend up to 1200 on Name Brand parts or spend about 600 on Generic parts its up to you

ok firts of all what is it that you want to do to the rex? like engine wise, interior, exterior? and what is it that you already have? also what year of rex is and what model. but if you dont have an engine do that while working on suspension! and give it nice look.
Yeah, I really want to do everything. engine, interior, and exterior. I guess a show quality race car? So much has been done with the CRX so I want it to stand out... not just another b16 crx with WW RS body kit.
Oh yeah, its an 88 Si.
Any ideas on my budget?

oxyactelyene torch setup: $600
another D16A6, motor, trans, ecu, axles, and front hubs--$400
front suspension on the back, weld in cage to support motor in rear-hours of work.
twin motor crx --- PRICELESS.
my plan is one day to have a rear motor B16 crx, have the B16, the crx, the welder, just need the time and ***** to hack up the back of my car!

I think having two engines would make the performance worse. Kinda like the cr-nsx was slow as *****.
I say go for the rear motor b16 rex

well if i was in your place with the money like that i would just think about what i want to work on firts, (inside, outside, motor) and then stick to it and then move to the next you know? but if its a stock si then i would go with the outside first its not the fastest (yet) but work on a new paint body kit lights and stuff like that then move into interior like racing seats (dad racing seats are just like sparco, and look just as good) or like integra seats and more stuff for inside and then in the motor i swap a b18a1 (ls 90-91) and just go for a high rever or just simply turbo it, but whatever you decide to do just go step by step and just make your car not anyone elses, but whatever it is good luck to ya!
stock pile common and rare JDM and B series parts like sports cards. wait 10-20 years then retire.
think about it! hondas are today what the the domestic muscle cars were in thier era, and now the parts for them are expensive, and hard to come by. sure the after market can duplicate almost anything, but they can never say "original"
think what a complete B series changeover could bring in 10 years, or a rare JDM head light or instrument cluster could bring. think they are big bucks now just you wait 10-20 years.
another great idea, is to consult a financial advisor, and steer the money into something more profitable for the future. a lot of people say well im young i have time. yes you do, but time multiplies things 10 fold when it comes to money.
save for school, like i did, i am going to the best automotive tech school in the nation. universal technical institute.
get a swap, a respectable suspension some functional yet eye apealing rims, and leave it at that. invest in ur future

Buy a set of quality tools and a roll-away, you'll need them and use them all in the future.
$1,000.00 will get you started pretty nicely, depending how much $$$$ you spend on the box.

I have always loved the crx and there is no way im selling it. I kinda like the fact that it's 15 years old and doesnt look it. I ask people to guess what year it is and I get 99, 00, etc all the time
Just wondering how nice of a car I can build with $1000 to spend every month.
OR I could save my money for 2 years and get an NSX
Peace

a lot of people come attached to their cars like that. I bet you at least 60% of this board is really attached to their car. and like somebody else already said, you should start saving a bit of money away for school, like just put like $200 a month into an account and get a head start on that. cause you dont really know how long this job is gonna last, and trust me, when it becomes time for school, you'll thank yourself.
as for mods, right now I'd probably just start with the basic stuff, intake, headers, exhaust, maybe cams.... then later if you feel up to it an engine swap. B18C, B20
, whatever floats your boat really.
good luck

Yeah, I did AEM CAI, dc short shifter, energy suspension shift bushings, rims n rubber. I like thinking ahead which is why I dont want to do something like headers... what good are d-series headers witha b-series engine swap, you know.
I really want to build an engine that can handle a lot of boost. Like over 20psi. I was thinking building up a ZC would be good for this since the swap is easy and I could do it at home. Do you guys know of a good read on building honda engines? I really want to learn but there are few resources unless you read through years of post archives.
Peace.

WOW .... as a former member of UTI of Houston and also a graduate i would just like to add my 76 cents on this post here.... this might take a while so grabs your beers but take hede to my warning... UTI aka Universal Technical Institute is bogus... curricum sucks ... teachers suck (with exceptions of course) and a bove all the BUSINESS sucks... and i say business cause for $20,000 for about a year of school they PROMISE you a starting salary of at least 13 an hour after school... enough of my rambling i am just here to WARN my fellow members of HONDA TECH to avoid the same situation i was placed in... if you are truely looking for a school check out School of Automotive Machinists also located in lovely houston texas ... http://www.samracing.com thanks for the time folks... and good luck to you in UTI!

I don't think a ZC would really be your best bet to build for 20+ PSi... Maybe look in to a motor that parts are more rediley available for, like a B18B or A. Just what I think.
Regarding what one of the other dudes said - Why would you do your interior all nice and get nice paint and a kit and all that crap on, and then start working on a swap and ****? You're setting yourself up to get your new painjob damaged and shitty looking.
Speaking from personal experience I went with things that required the work first.. I did my suspension first thing when I bought the car, and a couple weeks later took it in for a swap. Once that was off the to-do list I got a set of rims and this spring will come the paint job.
Swap was the best thing I ever did for my car.. Its so much more fun now. If I could only do 1 mod that would be it..

If I made $1-2k a month I'd save up for a 96 coupe(since I love how they look), but that's just me. If you wanted to spend that much on a CRX, first I'd do suspension work, then body work and an expensive paint job, since you DO make that much money.

Be sure not to put on a WW RS Kit for sure.. If you just take the time to look at the ef pic post that is sticky in this forum.. you see that already too many people on this board alone have the kit on their cars. If you want to be original... Don't just put in a stock b16 or b18c or anything like that... Show some love to a sohc with all that extra cash flow!! Then put on a really flashy bodykit so that people will expect you to be slow.. Then blow em off the track(drag strip, no street for a smart racer)..

I know what your saying bro about the RS body kit, but I really like it and I think all the other CRX body kits are awful. I was THINKING about the mugen flared kit, but I cant really tell what it looks like cause the only pics I have seen are on that dark blue car. That and I really want urethane.
I was planning on ditching the front bumper anyway for this bumper:
But... I dont think its made anymore. Its no longer on import fans's site and I emailed them and they said they dont carry it any more. They do still have this one which I really like:
I think both of those would look really good with the RS body kit the rest of the way around.
Tell me what you think about that.

I think that some parts, especially simple parts will drastically go down in the future... CAIs, valve covers, altezzas, etc...
BUT then i think some parts will go up in price at an amazing rate... JDM B16As and B18C5s for instance... in 30 years they'll be worth their weight in gold.
