1st Gen CRX w/ b16 swap potential buy
i've got a chance to buy an '86 CRX Si w/ b16 swap for 2k and was wondering if anyone on here has the same setup? my main question is about aftermarket stuff for it... is it possible to fit a dc 4-1 header in that engine bay? also, what sort of suspension options do i have?
thanks,
Hunter
any pics would be great!

I had an '87 HB w/ a B16. Im not positive but i dont think a 4-1 will clear with that swap. The room between the radiator and header is so tight the flange cant clear the ben. I had a DC 4-2-1 on my motor in the '87. Its not quite as good as a 4-1 but it was sufficient.
Theres not a huge amount of susp. options but Tokico, KYB and Koni all make struts for 84-87. I know GC makes coilovers for the rear because i had them on my car. I cant remember the name of the company but theres a comapny out there that makes aftermarket torsions for them also. Someones gotta know the name but i cant think of it right now. Thats a sweet car and they haul *** with B series motors so for that price id definitely pick it up. HTH

All I know is my friend had a '87 with the swap and he ran 7's in the 1/8. That was with weight reduction though.
and a picture of that shizzle...
I originally had a B16 then swapped the block for B20. On used up slicks the car ran a 13.6. This was in the 1/4 with a '87 HB, Stock block and head with I/H/E, FPR, ignition and ITR manifold. The rear interior was stripped also. My car was fast but it had traction problems and the slicks i ran on were very old and abused. They were a loaner set from a local shop so they had well over 50+ runs on them. It had more potential but i only ran the car with that setup once.

You have to be carefull with OPM... they sell outa bars fast, some one said there not offereing 27mm bars, Litespeed just opened its sight up, they have bars, but there email doesnt work. They still have them on their site, but there is a waiting list(think groupbuycenter) for all the bars now. I managed to snag a set of 23mm's before the price went up and they had problems getitng them. They get them from SwayAway, but you cant just order from Swayaway because you have to have a order of like 15 or more tbars!
Ground control has shocks the cheapest out of every place ive seen. Problem with these cars is the lack of travel in teh front. my 85 is low, and Im meeting the bump stops on small bumps that normal suspension would laugh at. You can either buy the shortened Konis from OPM($$$$$$$$$$$) or cut off the brakeline bracket(its welded on, dremel takes it off fine) and slide the strut lower into the knuckle for a little more travel, then get some camber plates, they add the travel you need on these old lwoered hondas.
as for the 4-1, you CAN swap in a civic 1.3l rad(i think its a half rad similar to the 92-up civs), it takes some McGuyvering but you can get it in there and maybe have room for that header, might hang low, but if your willing to take the chance go for it.
My rule with b16s and 1st gens is no lower then 27mm tbar on that front end.... Ground controls for the rear because the choice of lowering springs for 1stgen/3rd gens sucks. For 2k, if the floors and jacking points arent shot its worth it, even if the body is shot, if it runs correctly, has Has mounts, axles, wiring harnes its worth it becuase swaps for 3rd gen chassis tend to run up into the 3k range after all the parts are collected. 2k for all that stuff is well worth it, you can find another good Si for cheap and just dump it into that for cheap.

just like crx8grand said its worth it for the parts alone. GET IT! as for the header issue. im using a one peice toda header. its tight but it fits in there. if you cant get ahold of a civic half size unit you can use the stock one like i did. just take out the center support and the radiator fan cage needed a little manipulating. good luck.
