smaller crankshaft pulley?

Default smaller crankshaft pulley?

my friend told me to get a smaller crankshaft pulley and it will be faster. but my other friend told me that its bad for the engine. anybody know anything about it?

they're both right....

The smaller crank pulley makes your reciprocating (sp?) mass lighter freeing up some horsepower, and also spins your accessories slower also freeing up some power.

On the other hand, the stock pulley also has special dampeners in it, and running your engine without these dampners leads to premature engine wear. More speficically, your main bearings can go out in a matter of months instead of years.

I bought one of these pulleys for my A6 rebuild project, but after finding out about this, decided not to use it. If you decide to go for it, I'll sell you mine for cheap!! (cover shipping and maybee a couple of bucks for my time and it's yours)

EDIT: sorry, didn't read your sig. If you're going B16, my pulley won't work for you.
