Default Suspension: Choosing the right shocks/springs

1. One thing I hear about some aftermarket suspension setups, you need to do maintanance - what exactly is that? - or is it same as stock - (i'm talking street setup, not race setups.)

2. Next, Although adjustable height would be nice, if not available, I'd like something close to stock height.

3. To adjust camber - I'd need to get the ones with pillowball mounts? - is that what they're for?

4. Spring rates - which companies have an option for higher rates for rear springs?

I never touch mine..

Can't think of any non-adjustable setup for that.. most people who replace suspension want the car slightly lowered at least for performance or lowered a good bit or lots for looks, but most don't replace to keep it at stock height or very close to it.

3. To adjust camber - I'd need to get the ones with pillowball mounts? - is that what they're for?
you want to add or remove neg camber? Camber kits will let you remove easily enough but a slight drop wont have too much of an effect on it. My car is about .75" lower than a stock ITR and camber is fine, but it's a GSR so kinda apples to oranges.

4. Spring rates - which companies have an option for higher rates for rear springs?
Tein, Zeal, Mugen (except lowdowns), maybe Apexi, etc. Or if you run normal shocks, then Ground Control would be the easy (and IMO the best of it's type) answer. Also, if the JDM suspension that you buy (if you were to buy one) uses a spring diameter that GC sells the Eibach ERS springs in then you can just buy springs of whatever rates you want from GC. Just need the free length, diameter and rate that you want. Stiffer you go, the less free length you can use.

Although I would like to get rid of the gap, I always seem to run over objects on the road that come very close to hitting parts underneath the car, I'd say maybe an 1" drop at the most.

As far as spring rates go, what the highest, yet streetable over crappy roads rates should I look for?

Sounds like Mugen Lowdowns would be perfect for you

Lets look at handling improvement vs expense.
Coilovers with shocks equals expensive but great handling, ability to adjust ride height.

Neuspeed race springs on stock shocks equals not expensive at all.
Perfect ride height, awesome handling. Downside is that you will have to
replace the shocks eventually. Is that a problem?
Well no when you consider that you could replace the stock shocks about 5 times
for what you pay once for coilovers.

Looks like it would be a problem, althouth i see your point with the cost - i'd rather get something that would last longer, as well as handle more hp.
