NSX-R Evo Car of the Year!
Thought that would be a nice topic to bring up since our last NSX vs. the world discussion. I haven't read the article yet (only a cursorly glance at the results) but the NSX-R smote out a lot of big name competition.
I hadn't looked thru the pages of the Evo magazine before but I gotta say it's a very well designed and published magazine.
I'll come back with some quotes from the article for your reading pleasure. First, I've got spend some time in the "reading room."

If I'm not mistaken 'Evo', and surely someone will correct me if I am, is published by the same people that put out 'Car'; a long standing benchmark of quality automotive journalism.

It's a damn Brit magazine.

What the hell do THEY know.

Remeber, they are the ones who brought you cars that blow up every 50k miles.
And all along I thought the RX-7 reigned supreme in that category, silly me.

And I like the NSX-R, I never said I didn't, but I wouldn't pay the kind of money they are charging.
I'm curious, what was it judged against exactly. And I want to know model, trim and drivetrain.
Last time I saw the Limey's pull this crap, they tested them against the N/A 996 911 and a bunch of other lower rung cars. Sneaky bastards.
Its a 40+ page article!!!! I picked it up the other day. Ill list the cars it smote and the scores. I havent read the article yet, so I dont know how they did the comparo.

Quote: Don't know why they didn't include a Z06.
Because here in the UK on 'proper' roads (twisty, bumpy, FUN) the ZO6 does not work very well. All American cars (Viper, Corvettes etc) are too soft and under damped for the UK and Europe. The NSX-R is clearly an amazing car if it can smote the Porsche.... Evo have a lot of experience and know their stuff and they used to produce Performance Car mag.
The TVR Tuscan is a nice car but they are very fragile and have a lot of problems. A TVR engineer i was talking too admitted that many go back with engine blow ups etc... I went on a mag test of the Tuscan S (seriously fast version) and it blew fuses all day long.

Ha! I say the same thing when they say something I don't agree with.

I still haven't read the whole article. But I do know the comparision included the AMG SL55, Ferrari 575M, Lotus Elise, Renault Clio Sport, Porsche 911 C4S, Mini Cooper S, and a few others. Don't know why they didn't include a Z06. A few pages later, the editors test the NSX-R against a Zonda. The last paragraph goes something like this, but not quoted verbatim, "the Zonda is quicker but not by as much as you'd expect."

Well, excpet for the 575M, but hey, Ferarri never gets close to their race machines when making road cars, well, excluding the F40 and F50. Oh and the 288 GTO 2.8T.
They should have had: Porsche GT2 or GT3, Viper ACR, RX-7 RZ, Lotus 250R, Z06 and an Audi RS4.
THAT'S what I would have tested.
And to the Limey: It's not our fault your engineers built crappy roads.

Then you wouldnt have run a Car Of The Year comp would you? The point is cars from this year past as they run the comp annually. Vipers really arent any good. Evos motto is the Thrill of Driving. A small slow car that is fun to drive with good handling will score better than one that is just really fast. There is a lot more to driver enjoyment than simple speed. Look at some of the most revered drivers cars in the world: Porshe 911, Lotus Elise, Teg Type-R, E30 M3, Mitsubishi Evo, etc and look at fast cars that are really not very good: Viper, original Diablo, Ferrari Testarossa etc.
I am not a big TVR fan but they are built with no compromise for proper drivers. They have an image problem due to their wild looks but underneath they are racers. I would never own one though. I respect any car that handles and drives well and am not swayed by badge or price.
Purely out of interest are you Americans jealous of our roads or do you think they are simply awful? I have always wondered this as personally i can think of few better things than thrashing a good car down a small mountain road dotted with 2nd gear hairpins. For me, next year is Nordschleife year.

And no, American's are not jealous of cramped, crappy, wrong way driving roads.
Just joking.I wasn't telling porkey pie about the other cars though mate. It'd be a wicked googley of me to assume a bloke like you wouldn't catch such a buggered oversight.

You haven't driven a Viper or C5 Corvette yourself, have you?
They like TVR's and hate the Z06. Enough said.
Thank you.
Thank you.
