Default Take a look at my turbo manifold, and offer suggestions

Like the title says this is my turbo manifold and I would like to have some input about what I should change / add... I might add a tial wastegate flange to this one..

Look at the pics, and tell me what you think. It's for a d series.

Thanks for looking.

might want to add some expansion slots to the head flange to help prevent it from cracking.

very nice im making one like that to. but the head exhaust holes are oval. are you planning for like a step down effect to create more vacuum and great velocity out of the head?

Thanks for the compliment.

The holes in the flange are 1 5/8" and that is significantly larger then the port size on the head. The gasket still has plenty of room to seal on.

The reason that the holes are not oval is that I don't have a cnc machine, or a big press to punch them out.

What if I just make them out of 1/2" plate? I really don't like the idea of cutting slots in the head flange.

I agree. By the way the flange is it looks like it would crack the manifold in a matter of a short time.

Interesting. Okay, so should I go cut between the ports with the bandsaw? You guys just want a cut that is the blades width right?

Yes I see that. The holes just go from the outside of the flange to the bolt correct? If that is the case, that will be very easy to do.

The thing that worries me a little is how high up the turbo is mounted. It seems like since its not hanging under the mani, but in front almost its gonna put a lot of strain on the manifold. Looks nice though...

I was more worried about clearing the radiator and stuff when I built it. I really don't think that it will crack. Do you know anyone that has had problems with this style manifold?

You wont know until you try it. Give it a shot, wont hurt to try it. If you have problems, make anouther one.

Yes you have a point. We have been running one on our neon for about a month now, and it is just fine. I am getting a hatch on thurs, so further experimenting will be conducted then.

You might also want to weld the turbo flange completely to the manifold... J/K....Im sure you did already....

Holy shizzat, that is a dropshop manifold! Whats up with that matt? If you're gonna try to take credit for a manifold you didnt make, at least choose a good one like geoff's

This phrase comes to mind "Emulate the best, **** on the rest (dropshop manifold)"

[Modified by Blake, 3:57 AM 12/25/2002]

hmmm I dunno what your deal is, but I can assure you that "the drop shop" did not build this.

Show me what you think a good one looks like.
