hey, as you can tell im a newbie and i want to get a better stereo system in my car.. i dont want the big 12's or anything like that just enough for some thump when needed. I need to get a deck w/ a cd player doesnt have to be that fancy just able to play cd-r/rw's, a sub, speakers and an amp. I dont want to weigh my car down that much so what would you guys recommend? if you have some price estimates that would be awsome (i live in Canada btw)

there are so many options out there, where do you start. My recommendation would be; get a mid grade deck ie Pioneer( you can get the entry level ones with pre-outs for about $150-180). the speakers are 6.5 front and rear, I wouldn't spend a lot on these. look for pioneers, blaupunkts, sony, basically a mid range speaker that will run you about $60.00/pair. I would get one good 4 channel amp to run the whole system. find one that puts out 50-75 watts per channel RMS. make sure it is not a cheaper amp that boasts 800 watts of power ( like BOSS does). also make sure that it is 2 ohm stable. you will probably spend $300.00- $500.00 for a good one. As far as subs go I would just do a single 10 inch sub in a bandpass box. the bandpass box you can get for around $100.00 or cheaper( for a Q-Logic box), $250-up for a custom built one( see your local car audio shop for this) . The sub should be of decent quality plan on spending about $100.00( fosgate,JL, Hifonics kicker just to name a few). thats pretty much it, except for the cost of your amp wire kit and RCA's(figure about $50.00 total) now a lot of these prices are retail prices so you might find them cheaper on line. Hey, wow thanks alot for all the information...at least someone was out there looking. I would like to add my $.02 but i dont know anything about stereo's.. a friend of mine @ my work has a hook up at our local stereo shop.. and also at future shop(cost + another 10% off) so im prolly gonna go check some stuff with them. I can get the install done also by the same friend of mine. I'll talk to him about this again and see what he says. Thanks alot
