Default How do you prevent people from opening your door?

I was just curious how you prevent thieves from opening your door without breaking the window. What do you mean by a shim and how the hell do you stop it from opening your door?

Very doubtful you can prevent that... Only thing you can do is make it harder, such as removing the auto-unlock switches from the inside doors if you have them.

A friend of mine removed the linkages from the inner and outer door handles and hooked up a door release solenoid, so the handles wouldn't open the doors, only hte alarm would. Good for security, but better hope nothing goes wrong w/ alarm

That's what the trunk is for! Assuming your trunk lock is mechanical and not electrical.

What's this 3M barrier film? Is there a website about it (I imagine 3M.com covers a lot more than window film)? How much does it cost? Can it be used with tint?

What high risk environment do you live in to get this from your company? South Chicago?

Will it protect against gunshots?

what I have done is unplugged the power door lock switch from the doors and relocated it to the center console/shifter... I hardly use the switches anyway since my alarm has keyless entry and also ignition controlled door locks...

the 3M film sounds nice but one of my concerns would be if I got into a car accident and had the doors lock (ignition controll door locks.. locks doors when ignition is on) and windows up..and I'm unconscious or broke some bones or something and the paramedics have trouble breaking my window to get me free from the wreckage or something... other than that the film sounds like a good idea..

I know there was some guy on here who soldered some piece of metal to prevent slim jims from opening the doors, but I dont remember who it is.

Mag locks are short for magnetic contact locks, such as the ones you see on secure doors in buildings...

There are two ways in which they may be applied... One is using VAC power and two pieces of metal plates... Once the plates are energized it becomes a eletromagnet...

Holding strength for these sort of security doors exceeds 6000 PSI when the proper doors and braces are established...

On a much smaller scale there are permenant magnets that are powered by either VDC or VAC power... The difference is that their is always a residue amount of clamping force holding the two parts together...

Unpowered the magnets will hold aprox 5 to 45 lbs of pressure depending upon the type and surface area of the magnets and plate area...

Once the magnets are powered it becomes a eletromagnet, and thus becomes a mag lock... A simple 9 volt battery can supply the above mag locks enough holding strength to exceed 200 lbs of force... Powered by a DC to AC converter and powered to 120 VAC you will have the same thing as a building mag lock system...

The one in my vehicle was fabricated by our lead installer who is head of Brinks & CHUBB security services...
this is a long strech, but is a there a way you could maybe provide a picture? Id be interested in doing something like this myself.

Was this cut and welded into the car/door panels?

How do you know if your batteries run out? Is this also controlled through a relay by your security system?
