Default anyone here tried upping front and rear swaybars??

i'm about to experiment with a 28mm front swaybar and a 24mm rear swaybar...
if i am not happy with the results i'll be going to a 22mm rear and 26mm front. i currently have a 20mm rear swaybar.

i was checking out an ek9 vti-r hatch, and it had a 26mm front swaybar stock... that is what got me thinking

anyone here already tried this out?? okay on the street?? track?

fwiw, the rest of my setup consists of a rear lower tie-bar, 1.5" lowered springs (i forget the rates- they are stiffer than type-r springs though), koni yellow shocks, castor kit (3.8 degrees- which i will change to about 4.2-4.5 soon) and yoko a539 tyres.

Does a front swaybar make as big a difference as a rear sway bar??? Anyone with a personal experience with this??

Getting a larger front swaybar negates the point of getting a larger rear swaybar. You want to increase oversteer to cancel out the excessive understeer the car already has.

I have polyurethane front swaybar bushings which replaced my worn stock bushings. They might not be an actual swaybar, but it definitely increased understeer significantly. I had originally hoped the bushings wouldn't make that much of an impact, but they did. The ride turned from completely neutral to two notches towards understeer. BTW, I have a 22mm rear swaybar.

I would keep the stock front swaybar and increase the rear swaybar to 22mm or 23mm. If you dislike the oversteer (though I'm sure you'll like it), you can always experiment with harder front bushings instead of a larger swaybar.

Suspension Techniques front a rear bars ... they are crucial huge ... the car sticks around corners quite nicely

Won't the larger front help you corner flatter also, even though you may still have understeer?

it is not just over/understeer, we are talking about the stability of the car in general. changes in direction, sharp left to right movements- while decelerating.

I will try it anyway... i'll report back with my findings

from what i gathered from the forums, upping the rears should show a difference in cornering. I also intend to replace the bushings on the front sway bar and see how that handles.

I have a 95 LS and i purchased a USDM ITR RSB with the BSQ kit. Hope it comes soon. I will post pics and feedback once everything is installed.

Merry xmas

I've got the 22mm Type-R rear sway bar and it made a huge difference on my LS. It can do much more, but now the front gets a bit squirely when I accelerate through a turn too much. I'm thinking a better front sway bar will help that, since the stock one is only 22mm and has the simple endlinks.

I may be going with a 26mm front sway bar from a Civic Si. It's got the good ball-joint endlinks like GS-R/Type-R. I'm not sure if it'll fit though... anyone know?

In that case, stiffening the front would definitely be beneficial to you.

But I strongly urge you to try out some polyurethane front swaybar bushings before you put your money into a front swaybar. It has all the effects of a thicker swaybar for a lot less.

I recently did the rear bar on my G2 teg changed from to a thicker solid bar certainly did increase turn in... but I then found I had crazy body roll coming from the front of my car, so I did the front bar basically the same size but not hollow, the turn in is still pretty good and I have much less body roll...But the steering seems heavier since install of the front bar???? Both bars came with urethane bushes.
