vtec not hitting...
i posted this in the hybrid forum, but seems like alot more pple post here... anyway :
finishing up my jdm gsr swap in a 92 dx, wired everything up right to the ecu.. and when vtec is supposed to hit i get a check engine light.. its a 21 (solenoid).. take off the solenoid.. the screen is clean.. the only thing that we questioned when wiring it up is the grounds from the vtec pressure .. it had 2 wires going out but then it did a "T" and split off to 3 wires.. we only imagined that it was another ground.. we grounded both black wires and assumed the blue was the power..
Things i have done:
did everything posted here: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=164863
could this have anything to do with it: my radiator fan isnt kicking on.. and the temp meter is well over half way when idle.. my heat doesnt work unless im in gear and driving around.. i have replaced the thermostat.. got a delsol dual core radiator and replaced my heating hose, upper and lower radiator hose..
or.. i still have 87 octane gas in there due to my previous engine.. gonna wait till im right on E before i put any 93 in.
oh btw here is the original post: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=357445

Unplug the Vtec solenoid and apply power to it and see if you hear it click, also check the wiring on the solenoid for power, hook up a light or led to it to see if the solenoid is getting he 12 volts to turn it on when you hit VTEC. Sounds like there is a broken wire or bad solenoid.

he has gone through all of that already.

I had a same problem. I did everything but the secret was that the oil filter the one that is in the back of your engine, the one that you are supposed to replace when you do the oil change was cloged up. Just replace the filter and everything should be fine.
changed oil filter, changed ecu that i KNOW vtec works.... does the wire to the positive terminal to the solenoid wire click test guarantee that the solenoid is good?
you might have a **** solenoid. you said that your rad isnt kicking in and your overheating??? sounds like you definately have your wiring screwed up. try hitting the guys at hybrid garage or get a helms manual to see if your wiring is good. if vtec isnt kicking in there might be something wrong with the reading of the tach to the computer to the vtec solenoid.
im no longer overheating.. my rad fan just doesnt turn on... i mean i bet if i let it sit in my driveway for a long time i would...after i got the rheostat changed and the delsol radiator it stopped overheating right away. Im not running a tach yet.. i just finished the swap and still have my dx cluster in...
