Who is your insurance carrier for DD?
Who is your insurance carrier for Racing/Tracking? (or self-insurance)
The major limiting factor preventing me from participating in events is the "what if" scenario. Specifically, "what if" the guy at the track who hits me doesn't have insurance, or can't afford to pay for the damages he inflicts?

one of the first autox's I almost went to (couldn't make it last minute) a guy went the wrong way down a the course and crashed his Porsche 911 into a 3-series BMW.
it happens.

thats a very rare occurance - first car to car contact i have ever seen at an autox. Cover yourself and your car is the best that you can do.
I saw this advertised in GRM. It might be worth a look.... http://www.americancollectorsins.com/driversed.htm
All the people I've known who have State Farm say they're excellent come time to file a claim.
Personally I use Nationwide. Five weeks after taking the Suburban to the body shop and its still not done...let's just say I'm not impressed with them. I will likely put my house and my dizzying array of busted vehicles on a new State Farm policy for 2003.

Whatever you do, try and get your car & house insurance with the same insurance company -- you get discounts and they are much less liable to drop you if you have a track incident.
I personally hate State Farm, but that's because they refused to cover a parking lot incident where one of their customers ran into my car -- I dropped my homeowners insurance with them over that.
I'm attending the Scott Giles school of car insurance now --- I have liability on my CX, so if I wreck it, I'm just going to pay out of pocket. I just hope it never gets stolen.

You can't sweat the "what ifs?". You could more easily go out and destroy your engine/transmission/etc.
Most time trial events do not have incidents other than mechanical. Also I belive it is generally accepted that each individual is responsible for repairing their own car should an incident occur.

This exact same thing happened to me with all state - I cant sue because, well that makes no sense. What it came down to was i could file and each would be held 50% at fault (even though it was 0% my fault) and my rates would be "adjusted". I paid out of pocket. The shitty thing was, i could have just called and said "i didnt see what happened, it was a hit and run" and it would have been 100% no fault and not affect my rates at all.

What about extra towing insurance to cover long distances? Anyone has any info on that? AAA only covers 7 miles, since I've been with them for less than 18 months. I can't even pay to have extra towing miles insurance from. The closest track is 75 miles. That could get pretty costly.
I'm glad I'm driving a Honda at these events----At least that gives some peace of mind

That's what I was saying. Even if I wanted to pay extra, I'd have to be a member for min. 18 months, AND not have had any towing services for those 18 months in order to be eligible.
